Pizza is my weakness. California Pizza Kitchen actually makes a somewhat healthy pizza, and my wife makes pizza with flat-out wraps that aren't bad. She's also made it by mixing mozarella made with skim milk and fat-free mozarella. One of the keys is that you just can't eat the greasy toppings. Also, moderation is a must.

But I'll do my best to avoid it altogether.

Creatine: The most common one is the monohydrate, but there is also a new form of phosphate and more recently developed citrate, anhydrous, and pyruvate. While some athletes do not respond as good to monohydrate as others, almost anybody would get results with anhydrous or pyruvate (the latter consists of 60% anhydrous and 40% pyruvic acid for increased uptake). Almost all creatine on the market is just supplement grade, some unfortunately of poorer quality than what the manufacturer declares; as a result you may not be able to absorb it properly, if at all, therefore no progress. Pharmaceutical grade creatine anhydrous or pyruvate on the other hand truly give you the boost you are looking for. Commercial availability may be very restricted though.

You wanna live healthy, definitely do not eat out at all. Once you get used to it, it is so easy to just carry a grilled chicken breast with some rice and steamed veggies with you. Or a salmon sandwich, made with rice cakes..

If you're going to talk about creatine, add the warning: If you're taking it, you better be doing the work too, or else you just get soft and fat. It's not magic.

Oddly, Papa John's product is available at the finish line of every Ironman North America-sanctioned event. Then again, after a 10-(or 11-, or 14-, or 16-) hour race you need to replenish the fat stores and few things do that like pizza. And after a three- (or four-, or six-) month bout of focused training and self-denial, you're entitled to splurge a bit.

I'm a pizza fiend. Always have been. But one day, about seven years ago, I decided I wanted to get really good at making it. Went out and bought a massive pizza stone and pizza peel. Now, I mostly just eat what I make myself. That way I can control what goes in it (and not just on it). I mix whole-wheat pastry flour with all-purpose flour, which makes a really great crust. You make the crust yourself and you can do all kinds of things with it (rosemary is really good in it). I usually use an organic canned sauce, which is low in sodium, but sometimes I make my own with crushed tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, white wine and various spices (you make it from scratch and you realize how sweet the sauces are in frozen pizzas and at places like Papa John’s). I load it with vegetables like spinach and mushrooms, go heavy on the sauce and light on the cheese. Sure, it isn’t as healthy as salmon and a sweet potato, but it’s fairly low in fat, cholesterol and sodium. And the crust doesn’t have partially hydrogenated oils, just flour, honey, olive oil and yeast. It’ll cure you of ever ordering in, trust me. It isn’t as labor intensive as it sounds, but it does take about two hours from start to finish (about 30 minutes of that is actual preparation—the rest is waiting for the dough to rise). That kind of time commitment, too, will keep you from having it often.

Actually, I don't order the stuff much. I prefer to make it from scratch, too. But you do have to plan ahead because it takes a while for the crust. When I don't want to wait, frozen works just as well. But frozen and chain pizza sucks in comparison to what you can make from scratch. The wife cooks probably 2/3 of the homemade pizzas we eat, and we actually have mild arguments over who gets to do it.

I'm single, I eat on the run often.

The South Beach Diet frozen pizzas are damn, damn fine for $3. High in protein, low in bad stuff.

Given the recent overdose story, I certainly wouldn't suggest a bucket of Icy Hot.

Have you tried a canoe or a kayak? There might not be a great deal of leg work there.

I've tried them and I'm very bad at it. I don't think I'm coordinated enough, but they might be worth a try.

To build up your knees, hit the squat rack.
