I'm still a fan of binging one day per week. Get all the crap you wanna get in there out of your system. Once I've pigged out all day, my body is craving a healthy regimen for a week.

Also, how worthwhile are the protein shakes? I've never had one. I've been interested in trying one, but I don't wanna plop down $4 for crap I'll puke up ASAP.

BYH: Nothing wrong with caffeine, as long as you're not inhaling it two hours before you go to bed. I usually go to bed between 1 and 2 a.m., so I try to stay off the caffeine after 7, or else I'll be loopy until 3:30.

BYH, it sounds like you overdid the carbs/sugar early on and your blood sugar plummeted at 9:30. What you ate wasn't bad, just that you gotta balance it with something that will last and stabilize the sugars, like fiber or protein.

Carbs and high-sugar foods (even innocent ones, like fruit) are my total downfall. I struggle with it every hour of every day.

BYH, your first problem was the Wendy's. Fast food is worse than you think for you, and almost never ever filling.

When I get up, I always go work out before I eat anything. I just work out better on an empty stomach. Then I come home and mix up a protein shake. Maybe IJAG should ask someone as cadet intimated before she does that part though.

After working out, at least for a guy, you don't want to eat until waiting at least an hour after you're done. Eating a meal right away is bad for the metabolism, though I can't for the life of me remember how it works like that.

And always try and mix something with protein into your meal. Whether it's chicken or shrimp in your pasta (it's cheap and easy to buy some frozen shrimp and cook them in like 10 minutes) or something like that, you should be fine.

BTW, the five smaller meals is better than three.

Goodness...exact same case here. I go through several cans of soda a day. I'll have four of 'em working one basketball game alone -- the others keep count. It's a mess.

Yet, somehow I can't drink coffee, and anything else tastes like waste. It's a big deterrent to any kind of conditioning for me.

I try to keep it to about two 16-oz. bottles a day. Sometimes it ends up being three. No alcohol, no coffee, but it's still no excuse.

Again, I drink some orange juice a time or two a day, but it doesn't mask all the faults.

You gotta ween yourselves off that much caffeine. Almost always the only soda I drink has alcohol in it. Hey, you gotta have vices. But switch to water and stuff that isn't so processed for your energy. That's exactly what food is, your body's version of gasoline. The better the food the better you'll feel and for longer too. Your body may got into shock at first, but fight through it.

Shoot, my body would either reject me or completely shut down ...

    I'm also caffeine-dependent, but I dig coffee.

Try black tea or chocolate milk. Neither have as much caffeine as Mt. Dew, but it'll hold off the headaches.

I like Diet Sierra Mist and Sprite Zero. But no caffeine. Those will do in a pinch, when I need something else to change up the constant water, but I obviously don't get a charge out of it.

I'm probably deluding myself, but I like to think I'm still doing something good on this diet BECAUSE I'm limiting my soda intake. Probably not true.

I need to start running. Running regularly has coincided with the best physical fitness of my life (high school and for a few months in 2003).

Headbutt, I could've sworn I heard a trainer at the gym say it's OK to eat right after a workout because the metabolism is in high gear and can break down foods easier. Maybe I heard wrong. I'll ask tomorrow what the protocol is.

    You only think so, Sam.

Seriously, do you know how much sugar is in just one 20 oz bottle of soda, much less two? It's bad for you in sooooo many ways. Cut sodas out of your diet completely and you're bound to soon notice the differences if you're drinking that much.

BTW, Xan, I've heard so much conflicting information I never know what's right and what isn't anymore. Different things work for different people. But I heard something along the lines that if you do that it'll slow it down later in the day more so than if you wait. I wouldn't be surprised if that was wrong. But that's the rule I've abided by for the last buncha months and it's worked okay for me I think. Then again, so has simply making my ass do more cardio. It's not always easy to remind myself that's what I need to keep doing if I want to keep slimming down a bit.

Cardio's been great. The key for me has been switching up with the sexmill, eliptical, stairmaster and bikes. Haven't done the rower yet, but it doesn't appeal to me. It's one thing to improve the diet, but you've gotta burn calories, baby.
