If you wanted us to fix the economy, why didn't you just say so?

This conversation has nothing to do with gay marriage. It is about freedom of expression and the reasonable protections one should expect when expressing his/her viewpoint about a controversial topic.

  3. And in this day and age, there seem to be no protections at all. If you dare to oppose gay marriage in any setting that's the least bit public, the firestorm comes crashing on you.

No protections! Still illegal in only 44 of the 50 states! Firestorm! Only 44!

Or take any conservative viewpoint. I never knew opposing out-of-control government spending made me a racist.

The partisan media mouthpieces on both sides demonize the other side of the aisle. Get used to it and get over it. And get away from it.

Yes! If only there was some safe zone in which to express a "conservative viewpoint" in this country!

As to your second sentence, people are probably confused by the fact that you* didn't oppose "out-of-control government spending" in the years 2001 to 2008.

*updated to clarify "you" as in "conservatives." Not "you" as in "Carlton Banks."

Derek Effing Jeter plays baseball. He's not a social mores guy. Who cares what he says?
Is an opinion legislation? This guy was a teacher but he wasn't in class was he?
And again, it's not legal in Florida.

But let's just say this: Enact gay rights by military force. Anyone who says anything negative about gay rights should be taken out and shot. That make you feel better?

Little early for the word salad, isn't it?

I'm still not sure what its being legal in Florida has anything to do with anything, given that he was talking about New York.

  11. But even in the states where it is still illegal, people still get torched for saying they oppose gay marriage. It's a hard thing to deal with.

And people get torched for saying they support it. It is just a difference of who is doing the torching.

You and printdust and some others speak in these wide generalities on here, pretty consistently, about the "attacks" that conservatives undergo for voicing their opinion. You've got to be more specific. For every New York Times op-ed, for example, I can probably supply you with a WSJ op-ed that states the opposite. For every Ed Schultz sound bite, I give you Rush Limbaugh.
