Terrelle Pryor brought winning to Columbus.

The guy was a career underachiever in college who wouldn't have sniffed the NFL without the marketing machine that is Ohio State.

Again, he has no position in the NFL. Doesn't matter if he's 10 feet tall and has the ability to hover. He can't throw, catch or block well enough to play consistently at the highest level.

I don't see how anyone can think Pryor was medicore in college. Because he wasn't an elite thrower?

You measure by wins and losses. And Pryor was 31-4 as the starter for OSU, without elite receivers, without elite running backs and he had games where he carried his team to a win, the 2009 rose bowl comes to mind.

Whether he becomes a good pro or not remains to be seen. Personally, I would take a flyer on him because he's 6-6 with elite athleticism. But to say that he was mediocre in college? Nah, he was a lot better than that

The Raiders may very well have reached for him, but I think it's funny that people are freaking out more about Oakland using a third rounder on this guy, than they did Denver using a first-rounder on Tebow.

You are probably right, but the marketing machine around this kid started well before he stepped foot in Ohio.

I think you're 1) overestimating the amount of freaking out going on over Pryor and 2) forgetting how much freaking out people did when Tebow was picked.

QB's are funny positions in NFL . History
shows that draft round for QB's is not a
prediction for level of success.

Many QB's don't hit their stride till they are 30.

Pryor and Tebow have a long way to go.

You don't learn to play the QB position once you reach the NFL. Neither Tebow nor Pryor will ever be successful signal-callers because they don't possess the requisite skills.

If Pryor was taken in the third round on draft day, it barely would have been mentioned. heck, Clarett going in the third round a few years back was news, but it wasn't huge news. Not like this has been.

If the Broncos don't trade back into the first round to get Tebow, there were about 2-3 teams waiting to take him at the end of the first round. I think by the time the draft rolled around that year, it was pretty much a given that Tebow was going to go in the first round and while we can't truly call the guy a bust yet, it says a lot when he's third on the depth chart behind Orton and Quinn.

from a great distance, only observing based on all the hype when pryor committed to ohio state, i think the label of 'mediocre' is off only when measuring pryor as a college qb in general. his production clearly was way above mediocre.

however, the kid was hailed as the second coming whn he got to ohio state, a combo elway/vick. using that as my guide, i always considered pryor a pretty big disappointment. as has been stated, his record isn't the issue; the buckeyes are a recruiting machine pretty much assured of having that sort of record with whatever top qb prospect they've brought on board,

pryor was a very good college qb. not a mediocre one. at the same time, defenders who try to argue he wasn't a 'disappointment' are lying to themselves. call the expectationsu/hype unfair, if you insist, but they were what they were. and he failed to convince ANYONE in the nfl he was 'all that.'

now, who gives a darn? water under the bridge. clean slate. the raiders now have a chance to take this pile of 'silly puddy' and try to mold him into the qb he was hyped to be.

odds are against it -- all of a sudden 'getting it' on the nfl level doesn't often happen for qb's, and being with the most dysfunctional, ass-backwards organization this side of the bengals isn't going to help him one bit.

Very little. There's no way he should have been a first round draft pick even if he played this season.

no way to know the answer, really... pryor's performance this season would have determined if he would have gone higher than ithe third round. he would'is case stronger had a chance to make his case stronger and the nfl has shown it doesn't need much encouragement to have a qb's stock rise.

now, if you're of the mind that pryor's last season would be a carbon copy of what we'd been shown up until now, i agree this didn't cost him a nickel.

Pryor is a fabulous athlete. However, he was an average QB who really struggled to pass the ball against quality defenses.

I'd need 5 minutes to come up with 20 other QBs I'd have taken over Pryor in 2010.

Christ, there were six QBs in the Big Ten who I'd take before I'd take Pryor.

But just nationally, the QBs from: Oklahoma, Boise State, NC State (now at Wisconsin), OK State, Baylor, Mizzou, Arkansas, Stanford, Bama, Nevada, TCU, South Carolina (when sober), FSU, Texas A&M.

That is 14. Add the six from the Big Ten for a total of 20.

Disagree. Every QB who comes to the NFL has to learn to read an NFL D. Those who don't wash out.

A lot of successful NFL QB's have said it took them 5- 7 years to fully understand the complexity of being an NFL QB.

It's the reason why you see so many QB's over 30 being very successful.
