We're not using any nouveau math or employing arrays or any of that crap.

The answer is 12 because you keep going down the line with (unseen) 5 then 4 till 3.

    Agree or disagree?

99% of the answers on FB are 12 or 18. It could also be 30 or 28. Just depends which method you use.

12 is the pretty obvious answer to me. What's the reasoning behind it being 18?

The rationale for 12 is following the pattern of the number times one number higher.
The rationale for 18 is following the pattern of the number times the number above it on the list.

Saw this on my Facebook. I thought, "What, you asshole, you didn't get enough math in school?"

The teacher probably made this person use arrays to figure it out.

Reminds me a little bit of the old Abbott and Costello routine of making 13 X 7 = 28.

    18. If you say 12 you're assuming information that is actually not available. The pattern is simply multiplying the two together.

Either 12 or 18 can be correct, and probably some others if I looked at it for more than 5 seconds. There is not sufficient information to narrow it down to 1 answer. So a poorly written question.

Either way, you are following a pattern. The answer depends on which pattern you are following.
