Dick, we cut out pop from our house and replaced it mainly with water.

I must confess, we have bought Kool-Aid, which is entirely sugar, and Crystal Lite, which is Aspartame and pretty much the same problem as diet pop.

But not having pop in the house has been a godsend.

At one point in my life I drank a ton of diet coke. I haven't the stuff in at least 10 years.

My drinks are: water (a lot of it), coffee (in the morning), tea (occasionally at night; but more my girlfriend's thing) and beer (one with dinner, maybe 4 or 5 days a week). Occasionally a glass of wine, glass of whiskey.

The way we eat, we have a few common-sense rules, including: 1) If your great grandmother wouldn't have recognized it as food, it probably ain't good. 2) If you can't pronounce something on the label, no go. 3) If you don't know exactly what something on the label is, no go. 4) If it it has more than 4 or 5 ingredients on the label, it probably isn't good. A lot of things like that.

Diet soda fails on a lot of accounts.

Had a summer job with lots of free lunches and very little free time in which I ballooned up around 160. Yikes. Weighed in at 156 today during the long march back and beyond.

With God as my witness: I will be 141-142 by the end of the calendar year. More importantly, I will measure 31 inches around my abdomen with a tape measure by the New Year.

Why do you always measure yourself by weight? Body fat, I could maybe understand. How your clothes hang? Definitely. How you feel? Great. But weight is just a number. You know if you are in good shape and eat well, What difference does it matter if you weigh 141 or 142 (which on most men sounds anorexic, and I carry little weight for a man)?

If I weighed 150 with a 31-inch waist, I would be fine with that. In fact, it'd probably be preferable. Weight is just kind of a guideline. Waist size matters the most.

That being said, the weight thing is somewhat important to me because I want to qualify for Boston some day, and a runner's body has to be fairly light.

No way I'd be anorexic at 141-142, though. Not even close.

Much of anorexia is about mind-set, not an exact number. It's a very dangerous thing and most people who suffer from it don't even realize it.

And I know plenty of runners who have done marathons in very impressive times who don't have a prototypical "runner's body." Just be careful.

I promise that I'm not anorexic or in any danger of being anorexic. The idea is laughable. I sincerely appreciate the concern, though.

Alright, been a while since I have been on here and I said I would keep you all up to date, but just had a weigh in at the gym. I am down 18 pounds since my last weigh in and 42 pounds overall. Feels real good. Long way to go yet to my ultimate goal, but it is working. The next few weeks will be a bit difficult though, just accepted a new job that is going to require me to move to Canada's left coast which means I have to quit the gym I am at and drop my trainer who was a huge help in getting me to where I am now. But it's something I can pick up again at my new spot. Just leaving a place and trainer I am comfortable with is tough. But I digress. I am thrilled with my progress :)

When people who haven't seen you in forever, are they asking, "Where's the Beef?"

Seriously, congrats! and keep it up!

Actually I have been getting a lot of positive feedback, which is always good, and I thank you for yours!

However I have a feeling that unless I go invest in some new pants soon I'll be hearing "looking like a fool with your pants on the ground" :)

Nice work Beef, and congrads again on the job.

As for the pants, start by getting new belts. That'll save you from having to buy new pants right away, because if you keep losing weight you'll be buying a couple sets of pants.

I'm sure you'll find another trainer once you get there. Just think of the move as another step towards where you want to be.

Thanks Gomer, if you ever end out my new way on holidays you'll have to drop me a line.

Yeah I already dropped a full belt size, now it's at a point where that one is doing little to hold the pants up. May get some new pants to start the new job. I fully realize this is something that I will have to do multiple times with my end goal still a ways off in the distance. As far as dilemma's go its one I can manage and am willing to deal with.
