The Biggest LOOSER -- running weight loss thread

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by The Big Ragu, Mar 18, 2010.

  1. Right now, working out is my tertiary priority, with eating well being the number one and two. When sports slows down for me in the summer, I plan on living at the local aquatic center and trying to get back into pool shape (well, as in pool shape as I was before).

Went back home for my grandfather's service, but when I went back to my parent's house afterwards I went through my closet and found my suit for prom. The coat, which I couldn't even get around me in December, is now fully button-able. A little more snug than it was my senior yr in HS, but not by much. I consider this a victory.

I took back a couple pairs of jeans, but neither fits at the moment. I do expect that to change soon. I grabbed some old shirts from my end of high school/beginning of JuCo days, and they're good to go. That encourages me to keep eating well.

I bought a mid-90's "XXL" Astros jersey on eBay a couple of years ago more for the aesthetic pleasures of it than to wear it, but that's kind of my goal now. I want to be able to wear it at a game by the end of the season, and not have it be sausage casing.

Waffle, if you don't mind me asking, how high were you/are you that you are trying to get into an XXL jersey by the end of summer?

Good for you for taking these steps now. Just keep your eyes on the prize.

  3. To be fair, this is mid-90's XXL, meaning probably XL.5 for today.

At my highest, I was somewhere around 370. Now? I'm about 335-340.

I cut all regular soda at the beginning of the year. I haven't touched it even once. Considering how much I love Mountain Dew, that was pretty tough...

A couple weeks ago, I ditched the diet stuff too. I'm doing mostly coffee and water.

I'm taking a lot of Psyllium fiber, which has been great. I saw it on Dr. Oz and have been drinking three glasses of it a day. It makes you feel full and you eat less and it keeps you as regular as you can be, and that's something I've always had an issue with, even as a kid.

    How tall are you?

  7. 6'2"

The phrase "Ruben-esque" seems to be played out, so I'll say my frame was...
    Terrence Cody-esque?
    Christie-esque?

I'm about an inch taller than you. I'm generally pretty good when I'm in the 240-250 range, but I got to 275 at one point last year. I played at 240 in high school, but it's safe to say that 240 at age 38 would be a lot different that 240 at age 18. :D

  9. My dad's about 285 right now at 6'5". He was up to 340, but started the dieting as well and he's disappeared, frame-wise.

My goal is to get back in the 260-270 range, which I haven't been at in...a long time. haha

I figure at 6'2", 260 if I grow a goatee I can trick women into thinking I'm Joe Blanton

It's funny, because 6-5, 285 really doesn't have to be "fat" It might be, but it depends on the frame.

One of my best friends is 6-6, and pushes three bills and he's not really fat at all.

I was battling this recently, too. I lost a ton of weight after having my second daughter and was able to eat a lot and not see the consequences on the scale. Seems like it finally started to catch up to me, but I was having a hard time giving up having a snack any time I felt like it. Then I happened to read a letter to Dear Abby from someone who wanted to know how to battle cravings for sweets. She suggested brushing your teeth. I'm not one of those people who carries a toothbrush everywhere, but I started doing it at home, and it weaned me off the junk food kick.

Also, like WW, I find smoothies to be a really good substitute.

A friend, whose biggest food issue was ice cream, just got something called Yonanas, or something like that where you freeze the fruit and it makes it into something resembling ice cream. I thought it sounded idiotic, but he had lost 20 pounds since the beginning of the year with that being the only thing he really changed about his diet.
