I don't know if this is a good day or something to be celebrated.

I find it amazing that some of the same lib's who are always railing and whining against corproate evils and corporate controls are now applauding yet another step by corporate America to sanitize the airwaves -- is that something to be celebrated?

And is a man losing his job because he said something dumb about a guy who we've determined is beloved something we should celebrate?

I didn't like the man's show because it was way too hockey-heavy and the references to WWF and Liverpool soccer became tired, but there was an audience and as an advocate of the first amendment I'm thinking this trend of "oh my God, a shock jock said something mean let's get him fired" is not a good one.

Zags, this was not the first time he's done something like that.
It's not sanitizing the airwaves, it's finally realizing that someone who, on a 5,000-watt station somehow thought that meant he's a national star, thought his act could be being a pig and it got old. Real old.

So we should just let someone make an inhumane remark like that? Because he's paid to shoot from the lip?

I'm all for freedom of speech, but not when it takes a backseat to being a decent human being.

I'd error on that side every time of letting a bunch of self-righteous, pinheads sitting in some corporate board room dictating what is and what isn't fair game.

Every time.

Particularly when, had he said something similar about George W. it wouldn't have raised a single eyebrow among most of you who are acting outraged -- so in other words there are some times it is OK to be a jackoff and other times it is not.

And further -- the guy got great ratings -- he is coming off his best ratings quarter of his entire career and the best for his radio station at his time slot ever -- so somewhere there must be an audience for his kind of humor.

This is not the worst thing in the world but I hate that we've become such a nation of wusses that these kinds of episodes always end up with some group of the easily offended acting as if the made the world a better place because they silenced a mostly irrelevant shock jock.......

It's ERR on the side of ...

Now go down to the gym with Mark Madden and pump yourselves.

Maybe Scott Hudson and Vince Russo can get him in TNA. Awesome Kong's waiting for you, Madden.

Maybe, maybe not. Guys like that are a dime a dozen all over the country. I haven't heard him, so I don't know that there's anything special to distinguish him from all the other shirt-mouths.

Dumbforks like Madden losing their jobs is something that should ALWAYS be celebrated. IQ point by IQ point, the airwaves become a tiny bit smarter.

Thanks, the world is always better when some grammar cop douche adds nothing to a thread but some stupid smart ass comment about grammar or spelling.....

And have you ever seen Mark Madden?

Gym is not likely to be one of his destinations regardless of how much free time he has on his hands.......

Saying that you disagree with someone's politics, the color of his shirt or way he smiles is one thing.

Wishing that someone would die is quite another.

You not liking or agreeing with someone is not nearly enough to make him a dumbfork worthy of being fired. And I'd bet there are some shock jocks you like who a lot of other people think are dipshirts that need kicked off the air.

This is not about Mark Madden, it is about how much corporate America and our government have taken over the media and the airwaves and continue to suck the life out of the first amendment thanks to political correctness.

I'm gonna agree to disagree with you on this one.
He didn't get great ratings, they were average, KDKA was still beating him, as was 104.7.
Also, he had no ad money coming in.
Like I said, this was not a first offense. Having control of the public airwaves is a privilege, not a right.
Spending 4 hours a day calling people jagoffs and thinking it's good radio isn't good business.

The "gym" part is to stay loyal to the line from Fletch. The "go pump yourselves" was the part that was germane.

As for not contributing, my apologies. I'll sit back and mull over the intracacies of your "nation of pussies" contribution.

Pardon me, modern day Plato and Aristotle rolled into one.

Look comparing his ratings to KDKA and 104.7 is asinine and you know it if you are as much in tune with radio in Pittsburgh. Both of those stations have signals which are immensely larger -- like 10 times -- than WEAE so they get better overall numbers by accident, regardless of programming.

But here is an excerpt from Bob Smizik's last article about his ratings....

"The only explanation for Madden not being fired, suspended or at least publicly reprimanded for the Kennedy remark involves the blockbuster ratings his show received in the final book of 2007, which came out after he promised to change his ways. Madden had a rating above 8.0, which is extremely high for sports talk and the highest of his career. His numbers in the most recent ratings were not as good, but a decline is expected when the Steelers are out of season."

Again, if you don't like the guy fine, if you hate his show, better yet, but don't just flat out lie to yourself that the guy didn't have a big and very loyal audience because he did....
