The Hangover

Now THAT is fucking badass.

 

I finally got around to seeing it today, and it was awesomely funny. ($6 matinees for me, BTW)

Too many good lines to count.

One scene that stood out to me was the scene of Alan and Phil coming down the escalator, a la "Rain Man", on their way to the blackjack tables. There were eight people in the theater and I was the only one laughing at that.

If I have to watch a woman breastfeeding her kid in a movie scene, Heather Graham would be at the top of the list.

I think it's been mentioned already, but I loved Jeffrey Tambor's reaction after he gave the bride away and the groom apologized for being late. That's the father-in-law I would love to have.

 

I love Jeffrey Tambor, but am physically/mentally unable to keep from saying "Hey now!" every time I see his face.

I just saw this last night and loved it.

My reaction when I got out was exactly the same as many of yours ... definitely the funniest movie since Superbad, and one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

Can't believe there are so many Superbad haters in this thread though. That was just as great.

 

Saw it last night. After reading a bunch of this thread, I did not think it was possible for it to live up to the hype. On the way to the theatre, I was actually already bummed, wishing I knew nothing about the movie at all.

Then I watched it, and I was shocked at how much fun it was. Laughed out loud a shit ton of times. While I have seen many movies with individual scenes that made me laugh harder, I don't know of many films that made laugh as often throughout the entire movie. Start to finish, this movie was strong and I was laughing pretty damn hard.

Mike Tyson was brilliant. Not something I ever expected to type.

Anyone wondering if it is still worth it to go see, the answer is yes.

 

There's usually one film a year I see twice in the theaters, and this year, this is the one.

 

I've seen it once, and I'm already booked to see it twice more next week.

 

Phillips was on Stern today and he said he had to give up his salary to get to make the movie the way he wanted. Now, he's getting a percentage of what the movie makes and basically cashing in big time.

He made it sound like everyone was going to get paid a fortune for the sequel.

 

So, what do you figure the sequel's going to be? Stu and the stripper/escort getting married?

 

I read somewhere that Jeffrey Tambor was paid more to do a few scenes than the leads were.

 

I've seen it twice and I'm a guy who NEVER sees movies twice in the theater.

It was fantastic. The basic components and plot points really weren't all that different from about a dozen other movies that have come out over the last couple years (crazy drunken party/bachelor party, good looking peer-pressuring leader, conservative square guy with a controlling bitch of a wife/girlfriend, wild unkept off the wall dude, "last chance" road trip, somehow stumbling into pissing off Chinese mafia) but it ALL worked.

None of it felt over done or unnecessary. The part with the Chinese guy would have been SO easy to screw up, but it was perfect. Tyson could so easily have been over played, dumb and unfunny.

The whole plot about where the lost friend was is the best example of the movie staying within itself and avoiding the temptation to get ridiculous like almost every other movie in the genre does. Where they finally found him — that's hilarious and actually makes some sense. So many other potential outcomes — from the Chinese guy having him to Tyson having him to ... I don't know, anything else over the edge — would have ruined the movie. Of course parts of it were ridiculous, but it was all acceptably ridiculous. It just worked. No better way to say it.
