The president is campaigning in OH and PA while Romney is taking vaca in NH. This is a reversal of traditional roles. Normally it is the challenger out beating the bushes with a confident President hiding in the Rose Garden.

And if Obama went on a vacation, the RWSM would be whining that he should be working.

In other words, he's either lazy or scared. Got it. Yep.

This shows that Obama's polls have him scared. Why else be spending time and resources in OH and PA? Two states that he won easily in 2008 are now in play. He's afraid. The economy isn't going to get any better. In fact it will probably be revised down.

Romney will get a bounce both from his pick of VP (will probably help him pick up one battleground state) and from his Convention. Obama is probably going to lose points from his convention because it will be the protests and the people staying away from him that will make the news.

The people whistling past the graveyard are funny.

Romney 2012

I don't think Obama is safe, but this is fanboy the other way.

A bump from the VP choice? I seriously doubt it. Unless your VP candidate is a total crank (cough ... Sarah Palin) no one cares.

And money doesn't mean squat unless there's a message behind it ... which Romney sorely lacks.

There's a reason why Republicans are grumbling about his candidacy ... he doesn't move the needle. And the fight over the "fiscal cliff" to come is likely going to help Obama at the expense of the Republicans who are viewed, rightly, by many Americans as obstructionist.

It's going to take an event foreseen or unforeseen to get Romney through, which, I grant, could happen.

But lets not spike the football when you're not even to midfield yet.

I could see the right/wrong VP choice helping or hurting by a couple points... I don't think it's as simple as somebody being the difference between winning or losing, but for example, if he picks Rubio and Rubio ensures that he wins Florida and gives him a 1-2 point bump it can still make a difference...

Meh. I could be wrong, but I doubt there's many people in Florida who would be moved to vote for Romney because of Rubio that weren't already voting for Romney.

It's possible, though also unlikely, it could backfire on Romney as it might gin up the Florida Democrats who can't stand Rubio.

How many months of over 8% unemployment? How big is the deficit? Romney doesn't have a message?

I cannot make the blind see.

You just did it. His message is pointing out statistics.

We can all do that. There are probably high-functioning chimps and dolphins who can do it too.

His job is to find solutions to make those statistics better.

And in that way, he's sorely lacking any message whatsoever.

23 million people out of work are not just statistics.

Have you no compassion? Are you really that blind to think that 4 more years of the same tax and spend policies will make things better?

Really? I know this board is 90% pro-Obama but really?

Americans don't vote against incumbents. They vote for challengers. You're not going to win this election on the strength of a 52% vote for not-Obama. You have to convince people to vote FOR Romney, not against Obama.

Either that, or you have to hope that enough Obama voters from 2008 don't bother coming out. Or, more accurately, that they do try, but that GOP vote suppression efforts have the desired effect.

Chris L, what will Romney do to change those statistics, besides getting dividend checks forwarded to 1600 Penn. Ave.?
