A helluva lot more happened in Season 5, that's for sure. But Season 2 is when The Office found it's stride and there are some brilliant episodes there as well. I can see a case made for each of them. I don't see why it has to be one or the other, I love them both.

What the Office has done extremely well over five seasons is reinvent itself, evolve, and generally not repeat itself. You might think Season 2 was the better season, and you might be correct, but if the show had simply repeated the antics of Season 2 on a continuous loop, it would have been dumb. Casino Night is a great mixture of romantic tension, plot development and comedy, but the reason why it's so many people's favorite episode is because it was a great episode for that moment in this story/documentary. I think the characters are richer in Season 5 than Season 2, and that's why you can do an episode like "Business Trip" that is more sad than funny, but is still a wonderful episode.

Here's the thing about Pam being a volleyball player in college ... in the episode with the job fair, wasn't she saying how she used to fake PMS to get out a gym class all the week.

Bingo. Personally, I think Season 2 is the best of the 5, and for me, it's one of the best seasons on any series, and it's primarily because of the Jim/Pam tension. Still, that can only go on so long before it becomes forced, and although I didn't like every direction the show took in season 3, I'll give the writers credit for moving in a different direction, and then doing it again in season 4/5. On any other show, I'd likely roll my eyes at the Pam pregnancy, but I've got faith that this writing staff can make it work.

See, for me, I like the idea of Pam getting pregnant.

I mean, come on, the whole Jan baby thing was OK but Pam? Shit. I'd pay just to see Dwight's gift to her at a shower.

Not sure why but Jim and Pam remind me of (age alert, I'm old) ....
    ....
Sam and Diane in vintage Cheers lore. Certainly different characters and premises, but the beauty was in their crazy love-hate relationship. Jim and Pam don't have that. But like Sam and Diane, you always figured they'd get together at some point. But then you wondered if it would be for good.

Pam is certainly nicer than Diane. And yet, methinks there will be more than a little relationship tension before all is said and done.

  7. Diane was more self-centered certainly, but I don't know that she was any less nice. Jim, however, is much more sensitive and less self-centered than Sam.

We don't even know Pam is pregnant. I mean, yeah that's what they want us to believe, but maybe they are throwing us for a loop.

There has to be some catch to this... maybe she's having twins, maybe they will name one of the babies Dwight, maybe they want us to think she's pregnant, but she's really not and Jim and Pam were just celebrating because her herpes has died down? I mean she did date Roy.

I'm just trying to think outside the box here.

She's pregnant. Basic lip-reading in that scene confirmed it.

True, but I think the big season finale moment was supposed to be that she's pregnant.

I don't remember reading anything concrete. Just "congratulations" and all that stuff.

They want us to think she's pregnant, that's for sure - they foreshadowed it and everything. But did anyone say for certain that she is pregnant?

Although this could lead to a lot of great episodes down the road.

Like needing a baby sitter and having to ask Michael to help out. Michael ends up bringing Dwight, or Creed.

Ryan getting more of a full-time gig when Pam is out. (hmmm, I wonder how that sales job works once she has a kid)

    Anything involving Creed or Kevin.

Just rewatched that episode and it's even worse than you remember. She flat out says she used PMS to skip out on playing volleyball.

    Oops. Eh, oh well.
