Sorry, Red, but that's just not happening--even with Romney.

Of the three big names USA Today is bandying about (no guarantee of precision, there, BTW), Mc would be most comfortable with Crist, obviously. It would be bad tactics to take him, IMO (Mc's going to win Fla, anyway, most likely . . ), since from a general-elec perspective, the guy's a lightweight . . . but Goldwater picked Miller for equally specious reasons -- and we saw how than turned out.

Jindal's one to watch, on the GOP side. He's so young, but in terms of his basic posture and helpful (youthful) contrast, he's probably wouldn't be a horrible pick.

Romney's the big-money, anything-to-win, hack pick. God help us all, if.

Given the economic picture, none of this likely matters, but, hey . .. knock yourselves out.

I am not immune to the shiny object view on this one -- McCain has no intent of picking any of them. But having them over the same weekend as he releases his medical records ensures that the med story gets second billing (absent any shocking news, of course)

I know Lieberman has already said he wouldn't accept the veep, I've noticed that he seems to be increasingly joined to McCain's hip.

Mind you, the man has lied before. He said he wouldn't run if he lost the Dem primary in CT, and of course he did anyways.

Not happening, for a lot of reasons. For Mac to tab Joe would be akin to putting all of the GOP's chips on Iraq -- and they really, really don't want to do that, if they actually want to win, this time around.

I guess I'm inclined to agree with you, Ben. Yet for this CT Dem, it's hard not to notice Lieberman hanging onto McCain's coattails.

While I can see that, somehow I still think Kathleen Sebelius might get the nod. She might appease Hillary backers who liked the thought of a woman in the White House. She's a governor, so she's not taking away any numbers from Congress. She's Roman Catholic, so she might help Obama with a group some numbers suggest he's struggled to get. She's the daughter of a former Ohio governor, so there are some in-roads to a crucial swing state there, not to mention Plains states.

If Romney had won the nominee, I would be voting for Obama...

I don't like the guy. But I think he may be the safe pick for McCain. I don't think McCain needs Crist to win Florida and that's really the only reason to pick him.

    (not necessarily in this order)
    1. Tom Vilsack
    2. Gov. Strickland
    3. HRC
    4. Gov. Napolitano (not Representative Napolitano)
    5. Bob Kerrey (I voted for him in '88 after Dukakis clinched the nomination)

Don't think Mac needs Crist, either, as previously noted.

But to take Romney would be to cater to the worst aspects of the GOP's Daddy Warbucks core, and the country's had quite enough of that act, methinks.

Or, 1/2 heartbeat in McGrandpa's case.
