BBC is pulling the plug. I just keep thinking of the Smithereens' song, which I think I will listen to now:

Fifteen years too late IMO. Bloody show turned into karaoke long ago.

The Kinks did "Top of the Pops" too. I think I will listen to it now.

As Mott the Hoople said in Saturday Gigs, it was always about sitting there criticizing whoever was playing -- "....take the mick out of Top of the Pops -- we play better than they do."

Makes me think of Jay-Z. Considering the history of the show, that's probably wrong, but it's a catchy lyric, so I can't help it.

Came from the bottom the bottom, to the Top of the Pops
Nigga London, Japan and I'm straight off the block
Like a running back, get it man, I'm straight off the block
I can run it back nigga cause I'm straight with the Roc
