Trump cheats at golf - the ONE and ONLY politics thread

This is what's really behind much of the consternation. Republican candidates have been painted as bigots/racists/whatever long before Trump's rise. The GOP is now suddenly bothered because Trump is not one of them. He's not playing the game. If the GOP was worried about the bad PR, what the fuck has it been doing for the past few decades? A lot of voters may not necessarily like Trump, but they like the idea of sticking it to career politicians who have spent years talking the talk, never delivering and ignoring their voters outside Northern Virginia.

 

If he's the GOP nominee, I reserve the right to hold my nose and vote for him, just as everyone on the left can hold their noses and vote for the sexual assault enabler. It's way, way down on my list of preferences, but it is always a better option than Hillary.

 

When your party elites keep breaking their promise and caving to the other side despite voters handing them strong majoritiesin both the House and the Senate, it's the duty of everyone to screw the establishment.

 

You're absolutely right, YF. I can't stand Trump and think he would be a disaster, but you can't argue that he hasn't tapped into something. He's winning primaries, and if it continues (and there's no reason to think it won't), he'll deserve the nomination.

 

If "southerners" are too stupid to understand how open borders, and what is called free trade, help them, then the party should make this case to them.

Instead, they treat them with disdain; dependent on their votes to win, but unwilling to engage them and their concerns.

An out of work textile worker doesn't have to be racist to feel like they got screwed. Of course Trump's position on trade and immigration appeals to him/her.

And, I support free trade, as well as reasonable, legal immigration.

But, when the only immigrants we let in are low skill workers, who compete for low wage jobs, in an environment where skilled manufacturing jobs are disappearing, people have a right to be upset.

We all sympathize with Disney workers, and others, who are put out of their jobs by foreign workers. But, we think low skill workers are paranoid racists if they are fearful about their jobs, or resentful over losing them.

 

Right. You keep backing your friends and their completely inappropriate insults simply because they vote the same way you do.

 

Ugh. ALL politicians are partisans. It's their fucking job. The difference is that only the ones who suck at it get called out. Obama was every bit as partisan, but to the victor go the spoils.

 

Discourse got ruined when the left decided it could continue to make minorities live in squalor and simply blame the failures on the people who want everyone to be a success.

Only one party needs an underclass to remain in power and that party does everything it can to make sure that underclass remains the underclass.

If a white, low income, southerner is out of work, or feeling insecure about their job, and is attracted to Trump, or other Republicans, he's dumb, racist, and voting against his own interest.

He deserves to be mocked.

If an African-American, low income, southerner is out of work, or insecure about their job, and is attracted to Obama, Hillary, or other Democrats, they get our sympathy, and are credited as being a thoughtful, concerned voter.

They both have the same concerns.

For the voters who choose to vote democrat, they're probably more downcast about their position in life. The messages they're receptive to are related to the minimum wage, free healthcare, and such.

The voter attracted to the Republican message is more hopeful. They believe a robust economy will get them back to work and/or increase their wages.

The believe that Trump will do that.

That's not racist.

 

Here's a less serious but not frivolous question for the board. Who the hell does Trump pick for a running mate? He's said he wants an insider, but which one? I couldn't begin to think of a name, which shows just how unique his candidacy is.
Also, how does he sell the pick to his voters for whom "Washington insider" is the third worst curse in the dictionary after Obama and Hillary.
