Unanswered points

How many people do you see using this term when it does not apply? Almost every time I read it or hear it, it's wrong.

Al Michaels just said the Saints trailed 7-0 but scored 21 unanswered points. Truth is, we don't yet know if those 21 points will be answered, do we? I mean, New Orleans had yet to kick off after taking a 21-7 lead, so Dallas didn't have a chance to answer yet.

 

Yeah, he could have said, "...scored 21 straight" points. Straight is a direction... it's "consecutive."

Has anyone ever really seen games all lined up in a row, as in the Cowboys have won four games in a row?

I saw an example where the writer said Team A scored 21 unanswered points, and Team B answered with a touchdown and field goal.

"Uh, hello? ... "
