    Please.

The Marlins are a business. A business with a large amount of Cuban-American clientele in their customer base. It is perfectly reasonable for them to consider the impact of this statement on that customer base, no less so than, say, BMW considering whether childless 35-year-olds living in a big city would react to a new camouflage 3 Series.

    "Afraid of losing ticket sales"?

Damn right they are. That's kind of what they do. Sell tickets.

The whiny asshole crowd you speak of includes many people who were subject to Castro's rule and were willing to risk their lives jumping on anything that will float to escape his regime.

It's absolutely appropriate for the Marlins to look at their customer base, realize they have been offended by a team employee and discipline that employee for his actions.

I agree with Dick that this should be a team matter and not a league matter. As noted in a post above, he made similar comments in Chicago with no repercussions because no one (or barely anyone) in Chicago loathes Castro the way Cuban defectors in Miami do.

"I hate niggers," said an NBA spokesman, who was suspended afterward for the comment.

"STOP BEING SO POLITICALLY CORRECT!!!!" said Zagoshe on SportsJournalists.com, when asked for his thoughts on the matter.

Then fire him, don't be frauds. If you are that "convicted" that you may have offended the sensitivities of a bunch of whiners then fire the guy.

Suspending him only five games is more insulting and a bigger farce than having a news conference so a guy can apologize for being an independent thinker.

    Total pandering bullshit

Is it really binary? Firaeble offense or no discipline at all? Seems like there are a wide range of offenses that fall in between. Like this one.

I feel sometimes as if there is a roaming army of politically correct wine-sippers who go around and try to find the stupidest people to threaten their livelihoods.

Bud pulled a Goodell on this one. This is something that could and should have been handled on the club level.

    Stupid wine-sipping Cuban defectors.

Being offended is profitable and now a professional enterprise in this country.
This is what we get for making every moron think his opinion is meaningful, with twitter and other platforms.

The Marlins suspended him five games, not Bud.
