So you don't care if the guy killed a lion. Fine.

What about if he drives without a front license plate or doesn't use a turn signal?

My church built and has completely funded for years a girls orphanage (mostly for those whose parents died of AIDS) in Kenya. Once a year a group of parishioners go over there as part of a mission trip to do repairs, visit with the girls, etc. (I've never gone). Anyway, I don't know much about what's going on there, but apparently Somalian (Muslim) terrorists are causing A LOT of trouble in that region, and there was concern about a big group of white Americans being an awfully juicy target. So, they're not going, and apparently additional funds are having to be raised to beef up security at the orphanage. I say all this because several would-be missioners are frequent Facebook posters, yet they've raised 'nary a peep about this violence. But ole Cecil, lemme tell you ... that's got 'em in a lather.

I find it funny when people are outraged that others aren't outraged enough about what outrages them.

You can find plenty of studies that show what generates sympathy from people. In essence, large groups of nameless people doesn't register like one person in peril. Especially one they know.

That's why these hunger campaigns let groups sponsor a specific child.

And Cecil really hit the mark for a number of reasons, whether legit or not: 1. He was known; 2. He had a name: 3. There are photos of him dead; 4. Perpetrator is an entitled ass; 5. People like and respect lions.

It would be really interesting to see the reaction if he had been a black German.

I'm always fascinated with the psychosis that allows millions of assholes who've never met the guy to feel comfortable in making this judgment.

I am slightly amused that the outrage over what occupies public attention is taking place on an Internet board for sports journalists.

Some of us make a living off the interest in what is probably far less consequential than any number of other issues or events.

I'm pretty sure that few of us lose much sleep over that.

I find it a little odd that people give names to wild animals. They ain't pets, they're wild and should be treated as such. Do you name the rabbit that's munching your garden? The groundhog under your garage? Hell no.

And, Cecil? Really? Should have changed his name to Hannibal, or maybe just Rex.

As Big Circ can tell you, people name lifeless blobs of cells, too.

It might open the eyes of a small minority of Americans who think the rest of the world thinks we walk on water. We have long used up all of our FDR, WWII karma a long time ago.
