What are your "Rules for Life?"

The quote from A Princess Bride about "classic blunders" made me think of my own "rules" that have never let me down.

    - Stick with buying shoes that you know work well for your feet.
-Avoid driving to Portland on Friday between Noon and 6 p.m.
-Never buy the same shampoo twice in a row - your hair needs to experience something new to keep it "fresh."
-Never spend more than three days with your immediate family members (parents, siblings) - people get on each others nerves after that.
    - Park in the same general area at work every day. You don't want to have to think where you parked at the end of the day. Further, always a good idea to park a bit further away from most cars. You avoid dings, or people hanging out near your car, and all it costs you is a little bit more exercise.
    - When driving long distance - save your bathroom breaks for rest areas and don't eat any big meals on the way.

Never forget a slight - if someone treats you poorly once, they're very likely to do it again.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me is the general idea.

If you can't do something, just say so. But if you say you're going to do something, do it.

    Never carry credit card debt.
When a woman brushes against you in a bar, she does it for a reason.
    Be nice to people.
    Try to make things fun.
Stop giving so many fucks about what other people think.
There are good people and bad people.
Pay attention and learn from mistakes.
A lot of successful people are idiots at a lot of things.
It’s better to walk a dog than walk on a treadmill.

Always marry (or date or cohabitate) up. Then do everything you can to make your partner think they did the same.

Never spend $5 bills. Instead, put them away for your mad money.

I was playing blackjack and a guy joins the table. He pulled out a huge wad of cash ... about $1,000, all were $5 bills. I guess he believes this theory.

I tend to take rules from those who are smarter and more talented than I am.

"When people show you who they are, believe them." - Maya Angelou

“Forgiving is not forgetting; it’s actually remembering — remembering and not using your right to hit back. It’s a second chance for a new beginning. And the remembering part is particularly important. Especially if you don’t want to repeat what happened.” -Desmond Tutu

“Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler's heart, kill your darlings.” -Stephen King
