Yeah, it's been that way for decades. When I worked at the Camelback Inn in high school the family would come and stay. We knew to never offer them anything with caffeine.

Shit, TMZ might be the most accurate organization out there on breaking news.

Seriously. Unless you are vehemently anti-religion, and you are willing to say you won't patronize ANY business started by someone who is religious. ...

When you go to a Marriott, you get a room, not Mormonism. When you order a pizza from Domino's, you get a crappy pizza, not Catholicism. What's the big deal?

There is no big deal. You buy products, not ideologies. If you don't buy the best product because of an ideology, you're only hurting yourself because that company's big enough that they don't care about your $49.95.

That's the whole sticking point with boycotts in the first place.

My definition of the "best product" entails understanding who made it, under what conditions and what the seller of the product does with sales proceeds. If you abuse certain races or classes of people, you don't get my money. If you abuse labor, you don't get my money. If you abuse animals, you don't get my money. If you abuse the environment, you don't get my money. If you abuse the political process, you don't get my money. Somehow, I still eat well, dress well and drive a nice car.

I'm not advocating boycotting any business based on the religious beliefs of the owner.
I'm pointing it out for those who do.
The owner of Chik-fil-a is a conservative Christian who espouses conservative Christian beliefs, as one would expect.
If you're going to boycott his business, which is fine, you should boycott other businesses for the same reason.

  8. OK... What's the issue with the Mormons? Are they anti-gay?

To me, there is a difference between a business owner being (for example) against same-sex marriage and the business proceeds being used to finance same-sex marriage issues, groups or causes.

I'd have to research to see if the people running Marriott now are Mormon, or if any donations are made from Marriott profits to the Mormon church.

If it is, I need a new hotel chain. I'm not buying anyone's magic underwear.

The Marriotts are one of the most prominent of Mormon families:

The Book of Mormon in the nightstand drawer should have been a giveaway that the chain was owned by Mormons.

If any liberals decide they need to boycott Marriott because of their ties to Romney, can I have your Marriott points?

Mr. Romney is named after Mr. Marriott’s father, John Willard Marriott, who was good friends with Mr. Romney’s father, George Romney. (Mr. Romney’s first name is Willard; Mitt is his middle name.)
