Whatever Happened to Shame?

I posted that on a thread yesterday, but I kind of wanted to expand on it and think it's a worthy thread topic. I'm sure we won't get through page 1 without the GOT clip (NSFW btw) - but seriously, shame needs to make a comeback.
I won't name names because I'm sure we all have people in mind when we think of this topic. Bad behavior or other things that in the past would be enough to force a person into hiding, rehab or both and eventually lead to genuine public repentence are now used as rocket fuel for fundraising, celebrity and "brand identity."
We celebrate bad behavior, we reward it, we honor it. And now we're supposed to be shocked when such bad behavior continues to occur? Hell, we even have people portraying "cancel culture" as a bad thing. Like these people shouldn't face any repercussions from bad behavior?

 

It died when instead of Bobby/Cindy being reprimanded when the teacher raised an issue, the parent said it was the teacher's fault. No one takes responsibility for anything nowadays, so therefore everyone becomes self-absorbed and ignores everyone else.

 

It's not the one thing. It's the dismal tide.

I think once you quit hearing "sir" and "ma'am," the rest is soon to foller.

Lack of, is Trump's superpower.
I think it's an important question near the heart of what's going on here. I really don't know.
A lot of this is the values one's handed through childhood. Not to lie, not to break stuff you don't own, so on.

 

We overdid shame for millenniums and then overcorrected.

Define "repercussions." And define what people should be ashamed for. Just terrible, riotous behavior in support of Trump? Riotous behavior of anyone? Scoundrels on TV?

I'm a pain to ask, I know, because I attempt to take seriously the question. Are we talking about whatever happened to protestant-y morality here? Or just creating another thread for folks to vent about how terrible Trump supporters were, are and will be? Because they certainly have showed their asses plenty in the last four years. I just don't need to get in the way of that venting.
