What's the dream job now?

For years my goal was to become a columnist, but it's almost as if that job is fading into the past.

So I'm curious what everyone thinks ...

ESPN?
Sports Illustrated?
Be the next co-host on PTI?

What's the brass ring now?
What's it going to be tomorrow?

(BTW, I do fully realize for a lot of people in the industry just having a job is the goal. I really hate what's happened in the business, but to me that only adds to the confusion about where things are heading)

...what, you want a real one?

Um, I would like to own my own bar.
In the world of newspapers though...a 9-5 sports editing job would be cool.
I don't mind writing, but it's not a part of my dream anymore. It was maybe 3 years ago, now I just want to make sure a good product comes out. If that means I write, then I'll write. If not, so be it.

Still chasing it.

Bristol.

Mothership.

Anchor.

As long as I'm in the business, this will be the "endgame" for me. Perhaps it is a phantom but it does keep me working hard at my craft and trying to stay engaged in the industry.

This question bothers me, because I'm at the proverbial crossroads.
I interviewed for a sports editor job at a bigger paper. Preps are still a main focus, but there's college and pro coverage as well. I'd be writing, designing pages and managing.
I also interviewed for a content position at a trade magazine. I'd go home at 5 and never have to worry about working nights, weekends or holidays again — and I think that would give me the freedom to tackle the projects I WANT to do.
I'm a little nervous I'd get offered the sports editor job before the content job. But if I got offered the content job first, I'd take it in a heartbeat and never look back.
And I'm appalled that I've come to that point in my career. I used to be a true believer.

Still to write books. Hasn't changed. But it wouldn't be sports. I'd do some history, politics, fiction.

In newspapers, I think I have a pretty nice gig. I work at a family-owned paper with an engaged publisher that listens to us and takes our advice fairly often. For me the "Dream Job" was to have a major college beat, probably ACC, but that's totally changed because of the climate in the industry. I'd rather have a stable job for a good company and still have time to be a good husband and father.

Anything out of the industry, please. I'm not picky.
