I have a number of golf features and stories I'll need to have done this year. You'll be writing for a golf readership, so I need someone who knows the game, its terminology, etc. E-mail me if you're interested.

Saw your posting and wanted to get in touch. I'm in Chicago fairly frequently, though I'm based in Richmond, VA. I have a piece coming out in "Chicken Soup for the Golfer's Soul," due out in April. My handicap index is 7.6 and I play some tournaments in the summer. I've written extensively about tennis for ESPN.com and others, and I've also broadcast tennis for ESPN/DirecTV. I know golf really well and would love to start writing about it more.

A link to my ESPN.com pieces follows: http://sports.espn.go.com/keyword/search?searchString=by+Whit+Sheppard&page=espn

Look forward to speaking with you if I can be of some assistance...

    Whit

I live in the northwest suburbs, have played to anywhere from a 6 to 10 handicap and am available for freelancing after 24 years in the daily newspaper business as a sportswriter. Although I haven't covered golf in more than a decade, I had extensive exposure to it as a writer earlier. I've covered two U.S. Senior Opens, a U.S. Open and PGA championship, numerous local tournaments and have written course reviews and features. I formerly was in Phil Kosin's Chicago Golf Writer's Association but when I was given other duties by my former employer, my coverage of any golf stopped. Interest in the sport hasn't stopped though. Would be interested in assignments.

I also sent you a private e-mail. I'm in Philadelphia, but let me know if you have any features that can be handled via phone or e-mail. I have a lot of experience covering golf.

Hope this isn't too late ... I live in Chicago, have played golf my entire life (a 5 handicap right now), still play in amateur tournaments, covered Big 12 golf and the US Amateur in the past few years, have a younger brother playing college golf and simply know the game.

I'm open to help you out at anytime so let me know. Maybe it's because I'm new-ish to the site but your private email is hidden, so this is my only way to contact you until I figure that out. Thanks.
