Nothing from the Dwarf or Loopy and Rhoden's story has nothing to do with race (wasn't a bad read, actually. Depressing, but solid)... might have to buy this after all...

The Saslow story gave me chills. It's outstanding.

Hasn't some variation of the "bugs bunny = greatest player ever" story been floating around teh internets for years now?

I read "The White Coon" shortly after my Field & Stream hit my mailbox.
    Very sad story.

  6. Thanks, Mike ... Interesting list.

Yes, Bristol, interesting list, but it's a waste of space to run it back like that.

How is the DFW piece on Federer not in here?

  10. Amen, JMac...I'll never forget reading that story in Communications 415: Media Law. I sat in my cramped seat, bawling, at something that wasn't really all that sad. But the pure emotion of the damn article just floored me. Damn.

And the Saslow story is indeed amazing...

One story from the pages of Texas Monthly, another written by the mag's executive editor.

    Love Texas Monthly.

Also think Hyde's piece on Jake Scott was very worthy.

  12. Agree whole-heartedly on the Scott story. If I were a teacher, I'd bring it to my class to provide examples of three things: scene-setting, flow, persistence. That must've been a damn tough story to get, and he wrote it beautifully.
