How far back did slavery go?

  3. AL -- No slope.
Just a combination of prosecutorial bungling, good lawyering, and (I believe) jury sympathy for the poor Christian woman.
    One-time only deal.
This is still the toughest needle to thread in the box.

I'm not making any kind of "highbrow" argument. I simply said you might want to throw a fact or two out there if you're interested in convincing any of the neanderthals that you are right on this subject. And I hope you're not accusing me of taking part of the "liberal vs. conservative" nonsense on this thread, because I've gone nowhere near it.

I've got no interest in how long "not guilty by reason of insanity" has been an accepted defense. I've got no interest in English Common Law.

I believe that if your brain is so fried that you off your five children, you should be:

    1) in an institution for the rest of your miserable life, or
    2) executed

And I'm sorry for it. I'm perfectly willing to admit that this opinion is less than humanitarian. I simply have a fundamental problem with the following argument:

"She murdered her five children in cold blood. But we've given her some pills and education and she's all better now."

At some point, even if you are insane, I believe you must be held accountable for your actions.

  5. Fine.
You need to buy a time machine and go back to 1630s' when they burned schizophrenics.
And the snarky "convince the Neadnerthals" is pretty much the giveaway that you're using the "You tthink you're smarter than us" card, which is usually the first or second one out of the deck.

And, if the schizophrenics were killing people, it was appropriate.

And there, in two sentences, is the extent of this guy's intellectual curiosity. Pathetic.

OK. Fine. Sorry. That wasn't my intention.

I simply don't belive that a few meds and a "Please don't murder any more children, Andrea" is sufficient punishment for bumping off five children.

It's pretty clear to me that nobody's changing anybody's mind here. Y'all have at it.
