President Biden: The NEW one and only politics thread

I wonder if the smartest thing Trump did was avoid a second debate with Harris close to the election. I wonder if the dumbest thing she did was not continually challenge him on that.

Mark Whicker had a good piece in his Substack this morning about the parallels between Trump and Vince McMahon and how being a scumbag is just playing a role and this country needs constant stimulation over all else. Just entertain, baby.

But McMahon had to be proud of the way Trump made sure the light was always shining on him. One garbageman's vest was worth 10 times the attention of any economic policy statement Kamala Harris could summon. Trump only shared the stage once, at his debate with Harris, and that was such a nightmare that he risked looking weak by steadfastly refusing a rematch. No, far better to stick to dumb-as-a-rock and other schoolyard barbs, and Hannibal Lecter and Arnold Palmer's 15th club and immigrants cutting your throat in your kitchen. Let everyone else cluck-cluck. Trump instinctively knew that real power lies in the sound bites, and nobody will dwell, indignantly, on what you said Thursday if you say something at least as outrageous on Friday.

I read Whik first thing this morning. Fantastic column.

Whik picked McMahon. I might have used W.C. Fields: "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshirt."

... because maybe he would have talked about Arnold Palmer's deck and acted like he was blowing the microphone and that would have swung the election?

Let me introduce you to North Carolina's new Attorney General Jeff Jackson. He's a 42-year-old Iraq war vet, former prosecutor, member of Congress, handsome, straight and a charismatic speaker with a massive TikTok following. Basically he is straight out of central casting. He's also one of my law school classmates and a genuinely decent human being.
".....come on down Mr. Jackson...." How soon can we get him to higher office?

Debate was not going to change the vote. Frankly IMHO these latent nationalist views are baked in and those voters were never going to give them up. At least that's what a minority is conditioned to think and to surmise.

my life's been too good to sweat this. I was a fool for thinking a black woman was electable.

I don't usually make outlandish statements, but facts is facts: Trump is Trump. He beat two women and lost to a rather generic man.
