    RIP Val Kilmer

Corky Ramirez and his older brother probably rented Top Secret! 60 times in 1985 alone. I loved that movie, and it has enough lines to be up there with Caddyshack, Dumb and Dumber, etc. "I know a little German. He's sitting over there." "This is Chevalier, Montage, Detente, Avant-garde, and...

    RIP Roberta Flack

One of the best and certainly deserving her own thread. She ruled the early 70s. "Killing Me Softly" and "Feel Like Makin' Love" were always a favorite. My favorite song of hers was a remake of "Inner City Blues" at the Springfield (Mass.) Civic Center on Oct. 1, 1972. Give it a listen. It's a...

RIP John Shumate and Rich Dauer

Hit a home run in Game 7 of the 79 WS that put the Orioles up 1-0. And that was all Baltimore would score in that game, I believe.

Missouri Sportswriter Murdered in Possible Road Rage Incident

Is this really a Gen-Z thing? I’ll be 49 this year and I always back up into a parking spot, even with a camera, because I don’t want to take a chance of backing into something or someone. Even at the grocery store. Doesn’t bother me that I have to go around the car to put the groceries in back...

Breaking news: Less breaking news on CNN

Personally, after the election I came to the conclusion that this constant barrage of news was doing more harm than good to me. Canceled WaPo and Boston Globe subscriptions, stopped going to the politics thread on this website (which I was checking every 10 minutes, it seemed), and stopped...

Missouri Sportswriter Murdered in Possible Road Rage Incident

One time I was driving through the desert in my 1970 Plymouth. Passed a fuel truck. Then he passed me and slowed the F down! And it continued like that for a few hours before he drove his truck off a cliff after T-boning my car. Crazy story.

    RIP Bob Uecker

This was the other Miller Lite ad I liked, with a young John Goodman. “Hey Whitey, I thought you were a lefty?”

    RIP Bob Uecker

Hope he is able to get a seat in the front row up in heaven now ...

    RIP Greg Gumbel

Prior to joining ESPN, he was on locally in Chicago, and had a report on Disco Demolition:

    Favorite Comedy Central original show

As a UConn student from 94-98, Comedy Central took up a large part of my TV viewing. The Daily Show (remember when Kilborn’s first season didn’t have a studio audience?) followed by WBSM were must-see TV for me. MST3K, Exit 57, Lounge Lizards, and later South Park. But I also watched to a...

    RIP John Robinson

Man, his Rams teams killed the Giants in the late 80s, Henry Ellard and Flipper Anderson in particular.

    RIP Quincy Jones

Around 1981 my father bought one of those K-Tel cassette tapes called 'Dancer' (our '79 Pinto station wagon was our first car to have a cassette deck (instead of an 8-track player), and he used to tape the radio and play it in the Pinto ... because he could) and Jones' song 'Ai No Corrida' was...

President Biden: The NEW one and only politics thread

I could use more stories like that to wake up to in the next few weeks.

President Biden: The NEW one and only politics thread

And now the headline is 'unusual,' instead of 'bizarre.' Unusual is Jerry's puffy shirt. This was not unusual.

President Biden: The NEW one and only politics thread

I think now is as good a time as any to come up with a list of what this clown’s downfall is going to be, because you know it will be spectacular and you know it is definitely coming.
