ESPN reportedly hiring beat writers for all 32 teams

I heard 19 new hires, since 13 will be the divisional bloggers and the already-existing sites in Boston, Dallas, Chicago, NY, LA.

    This is Why

Saw Reilly in the hotel gym at the Super Bowl. He was wearing one of those ironic shirts that says, "Call My Agent," which isn't so ironic with Reilly, given that he has an agent and all.

So CoverItLive no longer is free

Serious question: With Twitter now enabling us to interact with readers at all times of the day, do we really need live chats anymore? Half the time I end up just repeating what I say on Twitter, anyway.

    Who's staffing the Super Bowl?

Yes and no. D. Orlando got to town on Thursday for PFWA stuff, but I'm not sure if he had to pay his own way. Add Pittsburgh P-G and Ft Worth to the list. USA Today also sent two writers to the game even with Indy being a Gannett town, though one of the writers apparently had an issue on...

Washington Post does first Paterno interview following Sanduskygate

That story was loaded with pure garbage, from the over-written fluff lead to the convenient half-truths and excuses spewed by Paterno, which weren't challenged by the writer. I thought Sally Jenkins was better than that.

APSE contest--goodbye game story category, hello beat writing category

Great idea. Solid, informative beat coverage was never recognized in the previous APSE contests, and this seems like a decent way to recognize the grinders and unsung heroes of the industry. Having good day-to-day coverage is far more important to readers than flowery game stories.

    Yahoo levels Miami

The reason most scandals revolve around college sports and not the pros has a lot to do with sunshine laws for the public universities. It's a lot easier to prove that Jim Tressel knew about the illegal booster when you can subpoena his emails. And the Herald got scooped on this, IMHO, because...
