    Most media-friendly NFL teams

Hey guys, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on this. The only NFL team I've dealt with much is the Titans, and they seem great -- a good web site for media (you can even apply for credentials online) and they've been good about providing credentials to our paper (I've been at the last...

NFL coverage: sidelines vs. press box

Thanks for the comments guys. I had a photo credential since I was shooting, and decided to try my hand at writing a story on it too (since basic AP doesn't give us much stuff east of the Mississippi, and Nashville is our second-closest NFL market, barely behind St. Louis). It's nothing big, but...

NFL coverage: sidelines vs. press box

I covered my first NFL game Sunday, and I covered it on the sidelines since I had a photo credential. Here's my question: in terms of access, pro, cons or whatever, what does the covering the game from the press box offer that covering it from the sidelines does not, and vice versa?

    Small paper, big beat?

Does anyone on here work at a small daily (20,000 or less circulation) but cover a major sports team, pro or college, on a regular or semi-regular basis? If so, do you have any insights or tips or good stories?

    Photography on the NFL sidelines

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm pretty excited. I wish I had a longer lens (I do have my 70-200mm with focus motor and image stabilizer, though) to shoot with, since I hear you can't shoot between the 25's. And of course, the food thing is kind of trivial. :)

    Photography on the NFL sidelines

I just got photo credentials to the Ravens-Titans game this weekend, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about policies for working pros on the sidelines. Such as, what do the pressbox guys have access to as opposed to what the shooters have access to? Also, do photographers have any...

    Tab themes?

Hey guys, we're got a prep basketball tab coming up at our paper in 5-6 weeks. What are some cool themes you have seen and/or done? Also (and this might be showing some ignorance), what are the copyright laws like on doing a theme and/or cover inspired by a TV show or movie? Is it fair use, or...

Sports opening at a small paper just outside Memphis

Football Bat has a good point or two. No, maybe it's not the best gig in the world. But, a lot of it is what you make of it. It sounds like a good place to start at least. Get some good clips and move on in a year or two if you don't like it.

    Contacting athletes through MySpace

I used MySpace to do an e-mail interview and it ended up leading to one of my better columns. That said, I wouldn't use it unless I didn't have a good alternative. It's a good tool to use when it's needed though.

Sports opening at a small paper just outside Memphis

You know, this might not be the worst job to start at. West Memphis is the favorite to win the 6A football title this year, while Marion is an up-and-comer that has a superstar in the backfield. Maybe not a place to stay forever, but something that isn't bad to start at. Get some clips, enjoy...

Where is Lance Hanlin (the previous SE) headed? I knew him from when we worked in the same chain in SE Missouri.
