Back in the 1980s, I felt U.S. News and World Report kicked Time's and Newsweek's butts. It was big, all news and was packed with tidbits. I hated when is started going downhill. By the time it became a monthly, it was just a sad shadow of its former self.

It seems that these 14-year-old JV kids are getting a lot of grief. In my area, not too many kids do the book. It's often a parent or an assistant coach. And the couple of teams that do have a kid do the book, he/she is in the dugout and the coach will make the calls on the questionable hits/errors.

Oh, one more thing to add, which makes the official book not always official. I've known quite a few coaches who reviews the book after the game and makes changes/corrections. And this isn't done to pad stats. It's done because they knew the scorekeeper didn't always use the right judgement on...
