    No sports editor???

So, the Denton Record-Chronicle (Texas) has laid off their sports editor as one of four cuts last week. He won't be replaced, and the section is moving to a universal desk with all of the news side copy desk folks supposedly going to handle layout and stuff. I'm just wondering what everyone...

Prepare to be blown away by awesomeness

As I posted a couple of weeks ago, I was in Seattle and went to the Capitol Hill Block Party where I saw three groups...Truckasaurus, Girl Talk and The Dodos. They were all awesome. Here's a video from Truckasaurus. Their music is all 8-bit sound like from old school Nintendo games and they...

Help me decide who to keep, por favor...

OK, here's my league details... it's a pretty crazy league, I know, but when you've been in it for four years it gets really fun. We have 25-man rosters (obviously) and it's a very thin league depth wise. As you can see, you draft backups and even some third stringers. We start: 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 4...

Hard-hitting expose (accented e) details downfall of successful radio host

http://dallasobserver.com/2008-07-03/news/the-hard-lie/ This has been an ongoing saga in the DFW area since last year, and two days ago this finally hit. If you've ever lived in Dallas or just want to read a good, well-written story, check it out. It's a real-life soap opera involving...

    Travel help (Seattle-Vegas-Vancouver)

Well, my thread on my trip to Toronto and Buffalo last month was a great help, so I'm doing it again. I'll be heading to Seattle for a week three weeks from today. I've been to Seattle once before and did some of the stuff (EMP, M's game, etc) but I'll be looking for some more stuff to do...

My favorite part of my Canadian vacation

Has anyone had Steam Whistle beer? Oh my god -- it was maybe my favorite beer I've ever had. I was so sad to hear it's only sold in Ontario and Manitoba. The brewery tour in Toronto was also the best brewery tour I've ever been on, and I've done my fair share. It was very hands on and...

    I'm going to Toronto/Buffalo!!

Anyone have cool ideas of things to do for four dudes on a guy trip? So far, we have Hockey Hall, CN Tower and we're staying in the SkyDome hotel to watch a Blue Jays game. By the way, has anyone ever done that? Is it worth it? Any other cool places to hit up? Bars? Good restaurants? Anything...

Most off-the-wall, random quote I've ever heard...

The following is from a feature I'm doing on a track kid before the state meet. He's a 400 guy and his dad was actually a pretty accomplished quarter-miler back in his day. This is the elder's account of when his son was cut from the basketball team his freshman year. "He didn't make it [the...

    Tax question...

I'm about to make two purchases and was wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether I could write them off on my taxes for business expenses. 1) A new computer (at least a portion, perhaps) 2) A GPS navigation system for my ride (I don't see why I couldn't write that off, but thought I'd...

Cell phone decision: Samsung D807 vs. Cingular Sync

Anyone have experience with either of these? I think I've got it narrowed down to those two. If you can suggest any other moderately priced phones, feel free. I was interested in a smart phone until I realized I really have no use for one.

    I got a new car!

Thanks to all who had input on my thread a few weeks back and helped with my new car search. I picked up my brand spankin' new Nissan Sentra this morning and drove it 350 miles back home. I still have 120 miles to empty. I love gas mileage and I love my new car. Yay for me.

    Apple TV questions...

Can someone just give me a basic rundown of what this is? Is it just glorified TiVo? Does it only work with stuff you buy off iTunes? Any reviews/experiences? Thanks.

I'm getting a new car...help me make my decision

Anyone have any experience with the following cars... I'm looking at these and still might look at others. They aren't top notch cars, but they're what I can afford, in order of most affordable to least, but still doable. Dodge Caliber SE (car/SUV hybrid) Ford Fusion fully loaded (leased) 07...

    Fantasy football keeper ideas...

So, I realize it's a little early for this, but I'm in a super-competitive league with some other media folks and am trying to start formulating a plan for the upcoming season. Here's the deal with my league: 25-player rosters, start 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 4 WRs, TE, K, D/ST, standard scoring. The way...

    Smoking engine question...

OK, I'll preface this by saying I know how to change a tire and change my oil, other than that, I know nothing about cars... I have a Plymouth Breeze that's got 140,000 miles on it and has been good to me, surprisingly, but I think it's about had it. Today, I got to work and noticed a funny...

    Demetri Martin

Has anyone heard this guy's comedy? Man, it's freaking hilarious. The thing I really like about is the cussing is to an ultra minimum, but it's still hilarious. Not that I'm on some moral high horse, I love Chris Rock and Chappelle and Eddie and all those guys, but this guy is really funny. I...
