Mauer suffered a brain injury behind the plate. The move away from catcher is permanent.

What about also a slightly (read: heavily) more juiced Barry Bonds?

Worst Team to Win a Championship

Catchers who finish careers with 2,500+ hits, a .320 average, .400 OBP, an MVP, four batting titles and 10 All-Star games make the Hall of Fame.

    Sioux Falls advice?

It's not leaving Sioux Falls, unless the Summit League dies -- record attendance figures/sponsorship money and in the new main artery of the conference (the Dakota schools and new member Omaha). A 14,000-seat Arena in the city will be finished in time for the 2015 tournament.

    It is, yes. Never been.

    Sioux Falls advice?

I should apparently kill myself for living here. Some redeemable (and current) eating options. - JL Beers. Local chain with fantastic burger and beer options. Also small and popular, so expect to wait a little depending on the time of day. - Luciano's. Probably the best italian option and in...

Easily within 100-150 meters of killing somebody. Mike Napoli approached the front steps of the dugout within three seconds of the blast. Insane.

Running 2011 Baseball Thread, Vol. I: Dedicated to spnited

At the onset of the year, I knew Jeter's 3,000 hits and Thome's 600 home runs were almost both for certain. Now eight have hit 600 homers, and half of them are dirty. Thome's 600 should be revered for days. It won't. That's too bad. But at least there won't be an O'Connor column tied to this...

    Grantland so far

I thought I'd quickly interject that - although the sum of its parts has been disappointing - the Colson Whitehead piece on the WSOP (or, I should say, HIS experience on the WSOP) may be the gold medal of the site so far. I haven't seen much discussion of it here. It's the kind of stuff I...

The most brilliant screenwriter would not come up with something like this. So brilliantly harsh. Wow. From Ted Williams.

    "Getz is Gay"

Count my in the crew that found the prank funny and think that Danny the Coach was a tinge oversensitive. Beckham's a member of a generation that uses words like that as a friendly, facetious insult, and that's it. A flawed line? Sure. Anything to tag Beckham as a homophobe? I don't think so.

An unbelievable tragedy from every possible angle. The man, his son, Hamilton. Dear God.

    Paul Konerko: Hall of Famer?

I don't think Konerko's THAT good a defender. Certainly not a gold glover. Great career; not a hall of famer. He's maybe the best pure fastball hitter in the majors, though.

    Going to Minneapolis in July

I'm not too knowledgable about the Minneapolis restaurant scene, but I do know that a 1 p.m. Twins game, 8 p.m. flight is easily doable if you use the train. It's path ends at Target Field, and goes right through the airport. Game ends ~4 p.m., probably 45 minutes of waiting to get on the...

Running 2011 Baseball Thread, Vol. I: Dedicated to spnited

Had the ump called Beckham safe, it would have been scored as a fielder's choice and the no-hitter stays alive. The real outstanding defensive play was by Danny Valencia, the third baseman. Threw a pea to Morneau from virtually the dugout to get Quentin.
