    NFL editor -- USA Today

I see USA Today is looking for both MLB and NFL editors ... Assuming these are the lead editor roles, anyone know what happened to the other editors who were doing these gigs?

University of Alabama football recruiting reporter/writer/columnist needed

Are they still affiliated with ESPN.com? I only see like five sites still on recruiting site. Is ESPN getting out of team site business?

    ESPN College Basketball Editor

Anyone know anything about this gig? http://apse.dallasnews.com/job_board/2008/2211.html

Do they have copy editors at ESPN?

From what I hear, Simmons is such a primadonna (nicest thing I could call him on a family message board) and browbeats editors who dare change a comma that the editors probably don't give a crap about helping him out.

    Another one to ESPN

This won't be the last man/woman to ESPN.com. A friend of mine talked with them about a gig and says they're hiring people to cover every division in the NFL and every major conference in college football. They're all contract hires -- a couple years with options -- but there will be more names...

    petrino to arkansas!!

It's one thing to bail on the gig because it's not as promised, but to do it over the phone, then barely talk to the assistant coaches on your way out and not even meet with the players ... well, pretty gutless. Guess character isn't real high on Arkansas' list. And will he leave when Jones and...

Dave Hyde on Sun Sentinel's Fred Turner

I think Barnes is a great guy. Always takes time to talk to young reporters, a good reporter, great at building relationships and a class act. I love running into him from time to time on the road. Always great to share stories with. As a kid growing up down there, I've seen Barnes arrange to...

    Is anyone else loving "Chuck"?

Agreed. I don't think there's a lot of shows worth watching these days (House and 30 Rock are on the TiVo list as well), but this is one of them. May have to add Dirst Sexy Money to that list though, judging from earlier posts here.

    Reilly's latest is appalling.

Why does it matter how much Reilly is making? So any good writer who's making good coin can't write about money issues anymore? We'll leave that to kids just out of college making next to nothing, I guess. Please. It was a good story showing how out of whack some things are. He wasn't calling...

ANOTHER ONE to ESPN - and ANOTHER one updated 10/27

A guy I know who talked with ESPN.com said the plan is to have a writer/blogger for every major football conference in college and every division in the NFL. So yeah, it seems like they're trying to be more local.

    Pearl Jam fans?

One other great live show CD to get is the State College from 03 ... It was one of the longest shows they did on that tour, they mix a little acoustic in, ed forgets some lyrics, they play forever with Ed saying as he walks out for a third encore "At this point, we're daring you to leave." ...

ESPN grabs a good one from Baltimore Sun

I believe they're full-time hires -- no other newspaper or media gigs -- but not ESPN headcount. They're contract hires from what I've heard.

Rick Reilly leaves Sports Illustrated - now confirmed by NYT

I'd take Reilly over Chad or Simmons any day of the week. I think it's a great hire for the WWL and a damaging one for SI. Yes, Reilly doesn't it hit it out of the park every time, but neither does any other columnist. The majority of Reilly's columns are pretty damn good and make you wish you...

Dan Patrick joins SI Group/new radio show thread

I thought the telling line was the one where Patrick said SI is the pinnacle of sports journalism ... a not-so-veiled jab at ESPN?

    Wojo's fantasy column

A few of them made me laugh. Maybe not his best column, but not everything is going to be a tear-jerker or soapbox moment. I have no problem with him trying something like this.

New Cincy coach criticizes Enquirer, others, for not staffing Big East media day

The question is will Kelly be just as open and chatty with the Enquirer's beat person? I mean, will he blow off tough questions with cliche or will he be just as credible of a source. If I was the Cinci beat reporter, I would make sure to put that quote out to him early and often. He can't call...

What are some good books BY sportswriters ABOUT sportswriters?

I second Pond Scum and Vultures. You can find it cheap on amazon and the book focuses on talking to countless reporters about their stories of covering different sports. A classic.

    New ESPN.com Editor-in-Chief

Rob King is named new EIC at ESPN.com. Anyone know much about him and what kind of changes we can expect to see there? And is this is just the first of other changes there? http://thebiglead.com/?p=2543

    J.A. Adande seeks LAT buyout

Rumor has it Adande may be heading to the Worldwide Leader. Not sure of all the details, but heard its mostly NBA. It may be similar to what they just did with Jeffri Chadiha, part TV, some writing on ESPN.com and just be all over the place.
