    Rachael Ray -- WTF?!

Sorry, but the second item in the NYDN is far more interesting than Rachael Ray will ever be. Kristanna Loken, "Terminator 3" fembot extraordinaire, has given a big wink and a nod to rumors that she's hooked up with Michelle Rodriguez, the "Fast and the Furious" babe whose character was...

Is the media a tool of the police?

I hate it when the argument against dropping the police logs is "but it's one of the most read parts of the paper."

Who's next for the Dallas Cowboys?

Can they pry him away from the Dolphins' job he just took?

Who's next for the Dallas Cowboys?

What would Jerry care? He's building a new one anyway. [edit] And for the record, I, for one, didn't cheer when he was hired. I even cringed a little -- between my cheering -- when he won the SB because I knew that some people would use that fact to validate his hiring.

The Colorado AAU coach in question (Rick Lopez) hung himself in his jail cell.

    300

Just out of curiousity, why? Not saying you're wrong. Like I said, I think Miller is a genius, but his style is not for everybody. I loved Sin City the Movie because I felt it stayed very close to Miller's graphic novel vision. 300 looks like it's following the same path.

    300

A Frank Miller graphic novel masterpiece. On the heels of the Sin City success, they've made a movie out of it. Opens March 9. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416449/ Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. http://300themovie.warnerbros.com/ Certainly not...

    Old NH Register scribe passes

The day before the NH Coliseum -- where the press box is named after him -- got the wrecking ball. Tom McCormack, who spent parts of five decades covering sports for the New Haven Journal-Courier and Register died Friday morning at the Hospital of St. Raphael. McCormack, who had been in...

The New Yorker on 'The Unbeautiful Game'

Here's the thing. Everybody benches about TO and Chad Johnson and their ilk, and the ESPN-azation of today's superstars. Deion was all talk and no tackle. Vick needs to learn how to pass rather than run all wily-nily. And the '90s Cowboys/2006 Bengals set a tragic example to our youth with their...

Those who have left the business - how painful was it?

Anybody catch Sunday's "Shoe?" I'd post it, but (a) I still can't figure out how to post pics and (b) MacNelly's site (www.macnelly.com) is a Flash and not .jpg. Anyways, Shoe's talking at the counter: "So I'm walking down the street when a guy steps out of the dark alley. Points a knife at me...

    This Is The Future

I've always contended history needs to be taught in how events relate to each other throughout history -- ie. how one event, say the Gutenberg Press, which led to more people having access to the bible, as well as other classical works, which caused other changes in how Europeans lived their...

    NFL Divisional Playoffs running thread

Of course, I'd just like to watch the game. WTIC-61 out of Hartford has lost the feed for the last 45 minutes. My DirecTV is showing (paraphrasing) "Please Don't Call Us. The station is working to fix the problem as quickly as possible" on the screen. Yipee. [Good thing it's the Hawks-Bears...

How would you like to be a college kid ...

No alum. I'm one of those cheesy guys that roots for a college I never attended. Of course, having never attended college (one year of incompletes at Northeastern doesn't count), my loyalties aren't tied to anywhere. Being a UCLA fan ... long story. Short version: Goes back to being a kid and...

How would you like to be a college kid ...

2004 in Connecticut ... UConn women's basketball won a third straight national title (if you don't live in CT, you might not realize how big a deal this was in-state for your casual sports fans). UConn men's basketball won their second national title. New England Patriots won their third Super...

BBWAA: Mark McGwire died for your sins

I agree with what I think Abbott's point of contention: (A) Baseball writers did not write about McGwire's "suspected" steroid use back in his glory days because they didn't have any proof, just speculation. However, (B) baseball writers didn't vote McGwire for the Hall of Fame now, despite...

Ripken and Gwynn only Hall of Famers this year

I was interested to learn yesterday that it took Cy Young two ballots to get in, and he only earned 76 percent on that second ballot.
