I don't have an editor and use grammarly. It seems to catch the major stuff and I haven't had any English teachers call to rip me.

    Sports reporter/designer | Clute, Texas

Proceed with caution. Sports editor is a glorified stringer. You'll have to rewrite much of his work all while writing your own stuff and designing pages. Odd because the whole newsroom talks behind his back about how terrible he is but he keeps his job. Managing editor is a deck too. Seems to...

So you "accidentally" get a text with newsworthy info ...

Burned a high school coach once. He coached a 3A football team in a southern state that had won two games in three seasons. When I put together the football preview section before the season there was a rare Thursday night game during district play. A few weeks before the game I texted him...

Hayward is a great SE to work for. He was in Midland for probably a decade before moving to the coast. Corpus probably has the nicest beaches in Texas too.

    The wrath of youth baseball

I worked at a paper near Houston that covered Little League All-Stars from the first games on up to when everyone is out. Two summers in a row I spent 5 days in a hotel while covering state. Somehow I managed to not stab myself in the eyes to get out of it. Even worse, the lunatic owner wanted...

great prep scene in Hobbs and you can't go wrong working for a guy like Clayton

    Sports Reporter- Midland, TX

Len Hayward is definitely a great guy. They've had rough luck with the sports staff the last few years. Midland isn't for everyone. The sports scene is high quality though. The Odessa paper offers some competition on the college/minor league beats so that's kind of cool.
