I guess now's as good a time as any to start talking about the second leg of the Triple Crown. Personally, I think Orb is going to win the Triple Crown. I'll post my breakdown later, but here's the morning line odds. Who you got in your top three?

1. Orb (Even): Joel Rosario
2. Goldencents (8/1): Kevin Krigger
3. Titletown Five (30/1): Julien Leparoux
4. Departing (6/1): Brian Hernandez, Jr.
5. Mylute (5/1): Rosie Napravnik
6. Oxbow (15/1): Gary Stevens
7. Will Take Charge (12/1): Mike Smith
8. Govenor Charlie (12/1): Martin Garcia
9. Itsmyluckyday (10/1): John Velazquez

So I think it'll be a slower pace than the Derby was. No 22-second quarter or 45-second half mile. I think you're more likely to see it in the 24 and 49 range. I think that'll keep Goldencents involved and make him a factor down the stretch. If it's dry (I guess 50 percent chance of showers) I think Itsmyluckyday is a top three horse. I've never been impressed anytime I've seen Titletown Five run, and Departing is really solid, but not spectacular, which was the same kind of note I had on Golden Soul last week.

Orb is head and shoulders better than everyone and should win. And in a 9-horse field there's less of a chance for something funny to happen.

I've got, 1, Orb; 2, Itsmyluckyday; 3, Goldencents; 4, Mylute

Orb got the rail and will win. Wake me up after Belmont.

Triple Crown contenders after Pimlico are 0-for-12 since Affirmed in 1978. Lord knows tons have come close.

If a porker like Miguel Cabrera can do it, the horse had better run his ass off.

2-5-9 with 1-2-5-9 with 1-2-5-6-7-8-9 in my trifectas . . . not that anyone should give a damn; I think my Derby horse crossed the finish line about 10 minutes ago. Good luck to all.

I think I read a story today that said only one horse has won from the rail in the Preakness in the last 52 years and that was in 94.

I don't care who wins.

I don't much either, but if this pre-race show goes any longer, it's going to be renamed with roman numerals like a Super Bowl. At least the Super Bowl lasts more than two minutes.

They could have sang all the verses to "Maryland, My Maryland."

If Funny Cide and Smarty Jones, among others, couldn't win the Triple Crown, I have pretty much given up on seeing another Triple Crown winner in my lifetime. (I did see Affirmed win it in 1978, when horse racing seemed like a much bigger deal on the sports landscape and made the cover of Sports Illustrated.)
