Mark Kiszla leaving Denver Post

Nice pickup for the Gazette. I wonder how it and the Colorado Sun are doing, audience-wise.

Gazette story says the Denver Gazette is growing. They keep adding to their sports staff and the Anschutz money machine hasn't been turned off.

I read in WestWord that Anschutz is waiting for Alden to bleed the Post dry. Then he moves in and takes over the market. Anschutz's motives are both financial and political.

He's been waiting 15 years since the Rocky died. And he had the opportunity to save the Rocky -- and didn't.

WestWord says it is because he did not want to deal with the unions.

That and be in bed with Lean Dean as part of the JOA. Again, he's been waiting 15 years for the Post to bleed dry. Everyone, myself included, is still waiting for it to happen.

Good piece here on Troy Renck replacing Kiszla.

(A)nd if past is prelude, he'll prove to be a sizable upgrade over the man he's replacing.

Zing
I thought Michael Roberts had retired at Westword, If he has returned that is good news. I have always thought he was really good.

I always thought Kizla as a great example of a columnist who retired in place. Kizla has done thousands of columns and must be able to pound them out really quickly. He grabs his hot take of the day and whips it out.

Agree on Michael Roberts, but he just does some freelance stuff as it pertains to the media now for Westword. His snark came through perfectly in that story.
