I would have agreed with you (the world is ending??) until I had the California pizza at PK's in Blacksburg. Became a favorite of mine. Feta cheese, garlic and artichokes. I forgot to ask them to hold the artichokes and, well, best mistake I ever made. Really, really good

Never had artichokes, but I regularly get black and/or green olives on my pies.
