I did not know this guy at all. Just happened across it on the CFB Reddit. Judging by the picture this was much too soon.

Great guy who covered his communities so well. He actually went to my high school but was a few years older than me. Weirdly, despite being a sports journalist for a few years in Oregon as well, our paths actually never crossed. I regret that. Everyone always had nothing but good things to say about Pete. RIP.

Worked with him for a bit. Really hard for me to accept. He regularly updated his Facebook through it all with both his medical situation, what was going on in the Salem preps community, his gratitude for his family and friends and medical team, his ups and his downs. We were planning a parade by his home this weekend as he was due to finish up his last round of chemo. The guy fought cancer like a beast and continued to work through it all. Tyson Alger wrote about him in August. Pete's last FB posts were from two weeks ago - a message of thanks to his dad and a recap of the week in high school football Rest in Peace Pete.

Thanks for sharing the story. I couldn't remember why Pete's name rang a bell with me, but his war with K-State fans was the answer, lol. I think that was kind of a misunderstanding that got out of hand and blown out of proportion by typical social media jackashes.

I'm sorry to hear of Pete's pashing.
