The Best Local Columnist, Who Might it Be?

Constitutionality of stop and frisk wasn't the point of this thread, or even that column, but, noted.

It's interesting (perhaps only to me) that the columnist some regard as the titan of city-side columnists was someone who'd be viewed today as a peddler of conservative wrongthink.

By the time Royko wrote that column, I think he had pretty much had it with Chicago. He moved to WINNETKA in 1992. It might as well be Antarctica, although Winnetka is quite a bit posher.

I like Mellinger and Vahe at the KC Star and Ben Frederickson at the Post-Dispatch.

I used to read Bianchi and Greene in Orlando, and Leonard Pitts, and Joel Achenbach and a bunch of others from around the country. Pretty much liked them all. I can't afford subscriptions to all those papers, so I've cut back to sports subs and a NYT sub.
Bianchi sucks. He's nothing more than a carnival barker.

Greene was a good columnist, though. Funny stuff. Retired a while back, and I think I heard he passed later on?

Vahe Gregorian is money every time out. As smart a reporter and columnist as I've ever been around. Wonderful guy.

Bianchi is fine until he gets on his UCF high horse. I get the local columnist has to beat the drum for the local teams once in a while but he's gone over the top about that fraud of a program. Also seems to have a deep-seated resentment that Jacksonville has an NFL team and Orlando doesn.t
