I guess we're never going to get the sequel, though I keep hoping.

My top 3 will pretty much always be:

1, Eric B and Rakim
2, Boogie Down Productions
3, Public Enemy

A lot of rap/hip hop songs in my favorite 500.

Anyone go to the concert? My friend went, haven't heard her review yet.

My top 3

Run DMC
2 Live Crew
Beastie Boys

I didn't know what hip-hop was - but I'm certain this was the first time I heard it.

Melly Mel talking about Rappers Delight on a netflix doc on hip hop was classic.
He was saying how someone asked how he didn't write a hit like Rapper's Delight.
He recited some of the lyrics and answered "How you want me to write a piece of shirt like that."

very similar to what he said on the netflix doc here

As a kid from Brooklyn who grew up on a basketball court, rap was really important to me from the early 80s until the late 90s. I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday, but I remember pretty much every lyric from "Roxanne, Roxanne", "I Go to Work" or "I Get the Job Done". I can't even think of choosing my favorite artists, because there are so many which are important to me.
