    How 'bout this?

We have no earthly fucking clue why this asshole did what we did. Chances are, no one but the shooter will EVER know why he did what he did. Moreover, there's probably not just one Rosetta Stone moment that led him to go kill-crazy in a theater, but many different things over a long period of time.

The race to analyze something long before we know any of the facts is really idiotic. It plays a large part in the idiotic way the national (re: cable TV) chooses to cover crises.

This is kind of skin-tingling when you think of the unseen message:

Under the That's Incredible(ly Fucking Stupid)!
One of my FB friends is relaying messages from (i assume) his friends, who are saying the shooting is a hoax and a government conspiracy.

Maybe I should look for a judicial journal article whose thinking would OK letting this creep loose or to spend his life in a mental hospital.

Bubbler: I agree. Conclusions are irrelevant. The punishment shouldn't be.

I could write the same thing as the article you cited. Some psychologist's opinions mean jack squat unless it's backed up with evidence. You know, how science is supposed to work.

I've taken infants to a movie or two where I wouldn't take a child who was a little older. They spent the whole time conked out in a carseat facing away from the screen. That said, it was for a daytime showing with maybe a dozen people, not midnight for the hottest ticket of the year.

If you look at it that way, well I say denial of relaity because you don't have a science journal to back you up, well....whatever floats your boat. Common sense doesn't always need journals, just like this incident didn't wait until the police news conference an hour or so ago before it became official.

I guess different people find different things relevant.

The punishment? Assuming that "getting out of jail" is never on the table, I'm not particularly worried about it either way. I'm not a fan of the death penalty, but I'm not going to argue against it in a case like this either. The person who does something like this is obviously broken in an irreparable way.

I find the reasons behind it a lot more interesting. Understanding why tragedies like this occur helps prevent them, or at the very least prevents people from coming to bad conclusions and making bad decisions in futile attempts to prevent them.
