IIRC, there was some perceptive connection made between Columbine and other school shootings and Stephen King's novella "Rage," leadTing King to ask his publisher to take it out of distribution.

Here's a stunning bit from an AP story about the Colorado theatre shooting (sorry if it's already been posted):

If she or anyone else had, the FBI special agent just said they -- and others -- would have been killed, that's how much explosives were in the apartment.

Those people scare me almost as much as the ones who do the shootings.

I'm still getting my head around the fact that this asshole is alive. More often than not, it seems, these lunatics take themselves out in the process.

After hearing the 6-year-old was at a midnight showing, it was not surprising to hear the mom was 25. As a general rule, 19-year-old parents tend to not be the Einsteins of the world nor do they exude maturity and sound-decision making skills.

News flash: Smart teens sometimes get horny in a hurry too.

  7. As for the kid thing, don't give me the "hey, they work the third shift, they can't did a sitter bullshit. I you take your kid to the store BECAUSE YOU NEED FUCKING FOOD that's one thing. A movie on opening night at midnight is an event. You're telling me they couldn't have waited until they had a day off? This was deliberate. And yes, no one deserves this, not the dozen who died or the scores wounded. But that's not my point, it's that IMO kids that age shouldn't be at the theater at midnight. It was a cognizant decision to do that by the parents. You want to see he show? Fine. There are 10 am showings all over the country this weekend. Take'em then.

News flash: I am in my 20s and every girl I've dated (even the ones I had sex with in high school) was on birth control. And each of them still made me wear a condom the first few times...going way off the thread here, but sorry, I won't pretend that I don't have prejudices when I hear someone is 19 and has a kid...

What general rule is that? I've known quite a few 19-year-olds who became parents and done very well for themselves. I also know of some 30-plusers who haven't done a damn thing.
I don't know how old you are but I think you may need some mature a bit before throwing out such stereotypes.

Like I said, prejudices...I admit that. Date a social worker for a year and then tell me how much of it is "stereotyping."

My sister is a social worker and has been one for the last 36 years. Now what are you talking about?

Going to see it tonight. I am sure I will be safer there than driving in the rain on 295 this afternoon.
