I agree that they could make it just a wee bit tougher to get this much and this type of firepower, but based on what I've read so far, there is nothing that would have flagged this guy as a threat to do something like this, and it appears that he spaced his purchases out so as to not arouse suspicion.

President Obama will visit with families of the victims as well as state and local officials on Sunday.

No, this is not the cue to start politicizing things.

Change "a lot" to "a vast majority."

We in the media should ignore them until they are hitting at least 50-percent of their announced protests.

I must have missed something. Holmes volunteered to police that his apartment was rigged, yes? Why? Why would he spend all the time planning something so grandiose, only to offer up that information shortly after he was arrested? I don't get it.

Yeah, I can't either, other than Holmes expected the building to have already been blown up by the time he got caught/was gunned down. There is nothing rational about any of this shit. Nothing.

Maybe the cops threatened to crack his skull open unless he revealed everything?

It sounds like this guy comes from a family of high achievers. His father holds a doctorate in statistics and has done various research in the financial sector. Maybe he felt shamed by unemployment/having to work at McDonald's.

I'm going to make one last plea and then refrain from contributing to the derailing of this thread.

Perhaps some of us are suggesting that the side topic chosen is inappropriate/in poor taste given the fact 12 people died, more than two dozen others were wounded; some critically; and the alleged shooter wired his apartment to make a mushroom cloud of his neighborhood.

Maybe we're sensitive about seeing Ashley Moser criticized first for getting pregnant at 19 and then keeping her 6-year-old daughter up too late/taking her to a movie you and others have deemed too violent for YOUR children.

Maybe we're suggesting that discussing good/bad parenting would be more appropriate when the targets of your criticism didn't have the pleasure of feeling hot lead tear through their damn flesh.

    Are we asking too much?

Sorry for the rant. Please continue with relevant discussion.

Straight to the skulls. This may be the tipping point.

Just try to find a jury in Colorado which would convict. Or even a cop who would arrest.

Sorry, but this is SportsJournalists.com. Side topics are a part of the process. Deal with it.

I don't think we should waste a single keystroke on the Westboro jackasses, but it happened.

I did not criticize the woman for getting pregnant at 19. That is an entirely different issue.

Until your post, nobody really said they were offended by a side topic coming up on this thread. Plenty of posters mistakenly complained that anyone who dared question bringing a 6-year-old to the movie was blaming the parent for the kid getting shot. Nobody ever blamed the parent for that.

Please continue whatever discussion y'all like.
