STOP with the politics - right now. Others are talking about it? So what. We aren't.

That a bunch of innocent people were gunned down is an awful thing, just awful. That some want to make it a political thing is pretty bad, too.

Innocent people were gunned down because:
    1. a person wanted to do it
    2. that person had access to multiple weapons, ammunition, body armor and explosives
    3. a specific and politically identifiable group of people believe that access to multiple weapons, ammunition body armor and explosives is more important than saving innocent lives.

Paterno didn't molest a single child, but he allowed it to happen. The NRA and their right wing politicians and members didn't kill a single person Friday morning in Colorado, but they allowed it to happen.

Not discussing it is a political position.

Quick question, and not to thread jack. I thought politics were banned for a week? It's been a week already.

Go to a video store sometime and count how many DVD boxes you see with somebody holding a gun.

    She's probably right.

I'm just not surprised that her mind went there, because I know her stuff well enough and I know how she thinks and what filter she sees the world of cinema through.

    At least a week.

Again not to thread jack, but I think that political discussion should be banned altogether on SJ. There are just too many gray area's as to what constitutes "political discussion". This thread is a perfect example. There are political ramifications to this horrid event but clearly they can't be discussed here.
There is no sense is trying to judge what is appropriate and what is not. Just ban it all.The SJ membership will be better off and the mods work will be a lot less tedious.

Damn. You may be member of the year after that one!

We're trying to be reasonable and we think 99 percent of our membership is the same and can handle it maturely. It's the other one percent fucking it up for all of us.

Ban them? I'd rather not. Someone else will come out of the woodwork. The one percent will just change.

I understand there are political points with this issue. I also understand how several posts about the rich white man fearing Obama have nothing to do with this topic and that's the kind of thing that hacks me off.

Discuss THIS terrible event, please, and leave the other stuff out. As for politics in general, we will let you know.

Without politics, we can return to fight-free conversation in the MLB thread.

That's only because running threads are the devil. :D

I respect the decision to lay low on politics but I'm not big on not having any political threads. I enjoy reading the view points of others and definitely don't get worked up over it. Opinions are like noses, everyone has one.
I hope the mods understand that its hard to ignore the political angles of this tragedy. There are so many of them.
Here's hoping this political ban will soon end so that different viewpoints can be expressed.
