He's been inching farther and farther wingnut for a few years, I think. Election years tend to push people all-in, I guess. It's odd. It seems the older I get, the more irrational and myopic my old acquaintances become. You'd have thought it would be the other way.

You can see how people end up in cults.

And sorry if this is political. It's more about media consumption, but feel free to delete, mods.

A gawky teen giving a presentation about "temporal illusions" at a science camp when he was 18.

I do think it's interesting that he apparently wasn't on a suicide mission like many spree killers before him. He seems to have wanted to get caught, for reaons I can't imagine. I heard a weapons expert say the body armor that Holmes was wearing likely would have been more than adequate to handle the firepower of police weapons, so it's seems he had no plans to be killed by cops.

    He's fascinating.

He's by far the most fascinating of any of these rampage killers so far, other than maybe the Columbine tandem just because of the team-up aspect of it. Cho was nuts and left the video, but he was pretty standard-issue nuts.

    This guy ... just fascinating.

I agree, this guy is like something out of a novel.

Sad he is the least bit compelling, but people want to know why the fuck he more than anyone would do such a thing.

i get that this is a waaaay to the side sidebar but i was fired up enough about it to write a rant on my fb page: no surprise to learn these incredibly selfish, immature parents are still chldren fhemselves; they're 19 with a 4-YEAR-OLD along with the 3-MONTH-OLD. ya know how loud the the volume is turned up to during these special effects, surround sound flicks? as that fictional rock group would say, '11.' hey, i know that stupid parents come in all age but these two couldnt get enough air time...and just once i was dying for one of the talking hairdos interviewing them to have the balls to ask them: 'why the hell are you here withch your children?' i guarantee that if a social services rep dropped by whatever dump they live in they'd find enough violations to take those kids from those shining examples of good parenting.

as the father of 3 -- who under NO circumstances can envisiovision a movie or rationalization for dragging them to a friggin' midnight show -- this totally nauseates me.

By the way, when the gunfire broke out, dad put the infant on the floor of the theater, ran out on his own, got in the car and drove off.. leaving wounded mom behind in the theater with the kids. He drove back when mom called him, wondering where he was.

I heard early on the thinking that the gunman was a paranoid schizophrenic but nothing more. My wife is in the mental health industry and said the onset of PS usually isn't until their 20s and then those people, once they've been on it for a while and get better, they'll think they're OK, will go off the pills and the result will be worse than to start and it leads to extreme behaviors.

Now that we do know that he was planning this for months, I've got to wonder as I have felt bad for the parents of this monster, did they ever suspect anything even while living three states away?

I think he later proposed to her at the hospital and she accepted. If what I heard/read was correct.

So putting a couple buns in the oven was not enough for her to get a ring, but him being a yellow belly is?

It's perfectly reasonable that the guy thought it would be safer to put the baby on the floor, where it would be well hidden, than to run across a theater through cross fire with the baby as a sitting duck.
