Is showing up at these outings the equivalent of "coming out of the SportsJournalists.com closet"?
I mean, how many usually appear at these gatherings?

I promise you, in early June it's not that bad at all. Warm, but breezy. The jet stream at the Temple is very active that time of year.

July and August suck elephant dicks here, however. My first summer down here it was 112º on Labor Day.

We had about 10 SportsJournalists.com posters in DC two years ago. It was fun.

Why does everyone have to keep on mentioning doorgirl? :D

Wish you guys could show up, JR. In fact, I suggest only half tongue in cheek that the next year's crew do a collection to bring along the previous year's host(s). A payment of sorts!

Yes, to coming out John Amaechi style. No, the identities remain off the board, unless someone posts under their own handle (a la Elliotte Friedman).

And the TO gathering included an awesome mystery guest one evening.

We had about 20 in Toronto, about 10 to 12 in D.C. if you count the douchebag who had car problems, then got lost in D.C. and showed up in the seventh inning of Saturday night's game.

And CR is right. The D.C. weekend was wicked humid, though the best-I've-ever-slept-in-hotel bed made up for it. Mod hooked us up sweet on that one.

It was an excellent job. Great seats for the Jays, great bars and restaurants and classic summer weather.
Hotel and parking were solid too.
You guys could write the book on how to host an outting.

So do you guys refer to each other by screen names? "Hey Wicked, pass the ketchup" etc. Is it like Reservoir Dogs where no one knows each other's real name and doesn't talk about personal lives? Interesting.

You can be as personal, vague or anonymous as you want.

Those who are there to network gladly out themselves. Those who are there for the debauchery may or may not.

Do not be fooled by JR's humility. He and HC did a sensational job with the Toronto gathering...although I'm guessing HC was the real organizer and the old guy was just along for the ride.

I'm also starting to get tempted to find my way to Dallas as long as it's sometime in July.

I just discovered my Toronto outing file folder in an old cabinet.

The top is my badge, for those who asked what they might look like.

The bottom is Jimbo's address. As outinggoers remember (or maybe not), he was the character at Betty's who was reading a book when we got there and reading when we left. Amazingly, he did show up at the Jays game Sunday with the tickets HC gave him and stumbled up to his seat next to me and Spnited around the seventh inning. Jimbo said he wanted a picture of himself, so Spnited used my camera phone and took one of the two of us. Unfortunately, Sprint still hasn't figured out why I can't send pics to email off my phone, so I haven't been able to print it out and send it to Jimbo. He wrote his address and passed me a Canadian five before exiting the stadium, so I definitely intend to send it to him when I can get it from my phone.

Holy crap CR...you still have fucking Jimbo's address. You are one sick dude.
You forgot to mention the hockey stick!

I hope you mean sick in a different way. I'm a man of my honor, and if a dude like that pays me $5 to cover printing and postage, I intend to deliver.

    :D
