Here's hoping your plans crumble into nothingness and that July finds you in the humid inferno that is Arlington. :D

Any update? Are we hanging out in Dallas or Fort Worth? I'd prefer Dallas because I still haven't been there, but then again maybe that city sucks.

I still vote for Fort Worth as the dark horse candidate. More Texan, more friendly, more fun. Dallas really is shit, for a city its size. It's not even very Texan...the joke in Fort Worth is that in Dallas, the "walk/don't walk" signs say "NY/LA." Whichever one's lit up on any given day is what those lame, insecure Dallas people try to be on that day. And please Lord, no Arlington. I can assure you there is nothing to see or do in that hideous town except go to the Rangers. But, as I'm too far away to help with any of the footwork, my recommendations aren't worth much.

I don't want to sound like a pain in the ass to the organizers, who I'm sure have plenty of other things to worry about besides my requests for info.

I'd like to go. But at the same time, I need a ballpark on hotel cost before I even know whether I will have enough cash to go.

    OK, here's the deal:

Inky's swamped at work. I'm up at odd hours. I can do a cursory search for hotel rooms, but I'm going to need a real, actual idea of the number of attendees. PM ME AS SOON AS YOU SEE THIS if there's even a chance of you going. Let me know if you wouldn't mind sharing a room. I'll ask about blocks of rooms.

Very important you get back to me soonest, though.

OK, here's where it stands. I'm looking for hotels in both Arlington and Fort Worth. There are plenty of bars around the ballpark, so right now Arlington's looking like the place. Maybe we make Sunday a 'day in Fort Worth' where we can all car pool up there. No need to pay $45 each way in cab fare for a baseball game if we can stay in Arlington.

    Yes? No?

IJAG, I'll try to get a hold of my brother-in-law, an Arlington resident, to see if he knows if any hotels that might cut us a deal. I'll also try to see what the ballpark shuttle situation is in FW/Dallas. I favor staying in FW/Dallas and shuttling to the game. That would make a huge difference. I also don't want to pay a lot for a cab from FW or Dallas to/from the game, but there is not a single decent place in Arlington to get a drink, with the possible exception of Bentley's...and there's nothing else to do in Arlington. Also, Arlington is not walkable, so there'd be some cabbing from hotels to ballgame to watering holes if we stayed in Arlington. I'm pretty swamped at work as well, and won't have more info for a few days, but I'll try to help.

I looked on the Rangers' Web site, and all it said about shuttles was that it picked up in three places in Arlington. I have sent an e-mail asking if there were any shuttles from Fort Worth. I could find no evidence of that on the site, which as I said did list the other shuttle.

I was really hoping to nail this down this weekend. We're cutting it close.

Thanks a lot for doing this, IJAG.

Well that sucks big donkey balls about the Rangers shuttles. If the Rangers don't run shuttles from FW or Dallas, then the other possibilities would be Dallas public transit (DART) or Fort Worth public transit (The T). I'll see what I can find out online this afternoon.

Thanks. I've only been to Dallas three times, so I'm not much use in terms of public transportation or anything.

Shit, neither FW nor Dallas buses run to the Ballpark. I really shouldn't be surprised...not owning a car is a heresy in those towns. Only the economically marginal don't own cars. If you don't have a car, chances are you can't afford MLB tickets.

    Well, here are the options:

Stay in Dallas or FW, enjoy the city but pay a small fortune to get to/from the Rangers. That is, unless the hotel where we stay offers a Ballpark shuttle...not likely, but not inconceivable, particularly on weekends.

Stay in Arlington, explore the deep mediocrity of Texas' most famous suburb and discover why it was the inspiration for "The King of the Hill" TV series.

Stay in Fort Worth, tell Arlington and the Rangers to go screw themselves and go watch the Cats:
