Apparently people had trouble making reservations this morning. The hotel has been swamped and has not put our block in yet. The sales manager I've been dealing with said calling anytime after 5 p.m. CT today will allow you to make the reservations.

    I'm sorry for the delay/confusion.

I've heard that Arlington was the basis of King of the Hill's Arlen (Arlen ... Arlin[gton] ... DOES EVERYONE GET IT?), though the waaaaaaay-too-detailed Wiki entry on it apparently gives the nod to Temple.

Man, I'd like to go. But I'm not about to commit and let people down again. Money's better (thank YOU, car crash!), and it's the middle of summer, so I can get the time off. Hmmm.

MM you'd damn well better be there. I need people to share a room with since I have a wedding to go to on the other side of the country the weekend after that.

Well, when you put it that way, I'll start brushing up on my Boomhauer impression!

So in all honesty, because I'm not dropping $375 on a hotel room, who wants to shack up with me?

And I claim the king bed. :D

20 minutes and no one has jumped all over this responded to this yet?

    For shame, for shame.

Is it possible to see a list of people who are attending?

I'm not going to the outing, but I have some restaurant suggestions from a Dallas native with whom I work. I'll add my own vote for the Sixth Floor Museum, but unfortunately I didn't get to see much of the city.

Victory Plaza - by the American Airlines Center - new development with big outdoor screens and several restaurants - Craft at the W Hotel; N9NE; fancy Italian; Luna de Noche (moderate local Mexican food); Tavern (moderate prices); Ghost Bar at W Hotel

Sal's Pizza on Wycliff near N Dallas Tollroad; lunch suggestion at local fav. BW Bar-b-q on Irving Blvd at Wycliff

Grotto (Italian retaurant by the Crescent hotel/office complex) at McKinney/Pearl

West Village - at Lemmon/McKinney with several restaurants, movies, and boutique shopping; also Mockingbird Station at Central/Mockingbird with same variety. DART train works for Mockingbird station from Victory or downtown.

Downtown - Campisi's (local pizza/ Italian) at Stone Street Gardens/Elm/Akard St. and other restaurants by there.

Downtown - West End - lots of restaurants and several bars

Downtown - Deep Ellum - east of downtown Dallas - lots of restaurants and live music clubs - good burger at Angry Dog in 2600 blk Commerce; good Mexican at Monica's Aca y Alla in 2900 or so blk Main St.

    Other Destinations-

Shopping - Northpark Mall at Park Lane/Central Expr (Highway 75) or Galleria at N. Dallas Tollroad and LBJ Freeway (I-635); Grand Luxe cafe at Galleria; Cheesecake Factory across from Northpark Mall on Northwest Highway; Maggiano's family style Italian and PF Changs at Northpark; Northpark has a new AMC 16 movies.

Dining - Belt Line Road in Addison (northern suburb) take I-35 N to Beltline and go E on Beltline to Addison - lots of restaurant choices - a few are On the Border, Chili's, Champ's for sports screens, but there are many

The Galleria is magic. I dragged the bf there once...The fact he didn't dump me immediately speaks volumes for him. He didn't go into any stores, but he was there.

Sadly, budget cuts to the Texas State Historical Foundation have resulted in the discontinuation of the trolley tour of Dallas-Fort Worth that featured historical sites commemorating various milestones in my personal development. First kiss, first job, first really shitty job, first exposure to Trotskyist propaganda, first night of slamdancing, all these sites and many more were part of what was once a truly magical trip through the 1980s for tourists visiting the area.

The bar scene on Lower Greenville should get a mention. I'd give Deep Ellum a miss — it's gone downhill; most of the clubs have closed or moved. Victory is turning into a very hot spot; we need to catch it while it remains so. Dallasites are fickle.

I'm just not feeling the same enthusiasm and excitement from other people for this outing...
