I wish that Halifax could host an SJ outing in the near future, but since we don't have a MLB team, we are out of the running.

However, I am thinking that if there was a Halifax outing, many sj'ers would come ;) ;D

RE: another attempt at the Southwest...

We also could have an SportsJournalists.com gathering that involved Texas SportsJournalists.commers invading New Mexico. That would be pretty freaking hilarious. Maybe it should be in either Socorro or Glorieta Pass...two places in NM where Texan invaders were once repelled.

I make a suggestion to Moddy that we revisit an official SportsJournalists.com outing in Dallas, provided there is a host who lives in the city that can pull it off.

Dallas is a neat city. The outing should be centered in DALLAS, not Arlington, not Fort Worth.

And while the schedule of a sports reporter/editor doesn't allow for a winter gathering, the thought of Dallas in the dead of July probably didn't help, either.

If there is a Dallas outing, it should be based around a Cowboys game. The Mavs and Stars are decent franchises, but when people think Dallas, the next thing that comes to mind are the Cowboys.

Mid-June, I'd say. Not late June, not late July.

The Texas SportsJournalists.commers got effed over hard in this one.

Going to a Rangers game is lots and lots of fun. But the whole Arlington thing is a problem thanks to DFW's inability to provide a better public transport situation. Mavs game would be great; Stars would be fun too if it were a good match-up. But it'd be fun to see the Cowboys at Texas Stadium before the Cowboys, too, play in Arlington. The Cotton Bowl Game would be most fun of all, but of course that's a, uh, busy time of year at most sports departments. I've always wanted to see Grambling take on Prairie View in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl...that's usually around the first of October...also a terrible time for sports journalists to try to be away from work.

Fixed. Irish loves Kansas and wants to visit in the worst way. ;D

The official outings are baseball-centered. Moddy's said so.

An ideal time for those wanting to fill their Cowboys jones would be early or mid August, hopefully on a weekend where the Cowboys and the Rangers are home simultaneously. Would it cut into lots of people's schedules? Yes. Hence why it probably won't happen.

I still say we should head to Dallas in 2009, provided a host in the city can be found -- expecting people to coordinate stuff from forever away is unfair and unreasonable, no matter how much they bust their asses. Push back Boston/Philly to 2010.

Since I picked up the fumble, I had to pick a date I could make it to Dallas. I couldn't make it on the weekend of June 8-9-10 nor 22-23-24. The Rangers were on the road the other three weekends of June.

If somebody in the Metroplex (or even just in Texas) would have volunteered, they could have picked either of those dates.

Inky, I think you are taking it personally. The fact that you did what you did was extremely awesome.

That's why I am qualifying my comments with "if someone in Dallas can be found to host." It is unfair to ask you to do what you did.

Sorry, I did a bad job conveying my tone. I'm not taking it personally at all. I was merely explaining my thinking.
