Certain considerations prevent me from providing a more candid reaction to the above...

    Nice job, Duck Killa. ;)

I took one of those Chinatown-type buses from DC to NYC the other day. $20 one-way, $35 round-trip. Worked out just fine, dropped us off at Penn Station. Bus was only half-full, too, but it was a Tuesday afternoon. And as far as Chinatown, just get on the subway to get where you're going. Might have to make a transfer, but big deal.

  3. Much love to Inky for taking on the project in difficult circumstances. The fumble was an epic one.

We'll never attend another SportsJournalists.com summer outing -- and we hit the first one, before it was cool -- when it's held later than July 10. It was clear to me that June was when the widest array of peeps wanted to party.

I'd volunteer to host something, but you really don't want to be hanging out where I am. Believe me.

So we'll keep hoping that the 08 outing is held in June.

To the committee that wins the 08 bid: Me and Ms. Murci are available for logistical support.

Joe and I have won the '08 bid. Seattle, probably July though. Still chilly in June in Seattle.

  5. OK. Well, then we won't be helping. Have fun!

EDIT: I don't want to read all 20+ pages. What was the process for determining the dates for the 08 outing? I'm 95 degrees in June here. I have no problem with a "chilly" June trip. What are we talking about? 70?

Early look at the Magic 8-Ball for Seattle '08 outing says over/under is 7. I'm taking the over.

  7. Sorry about that rain thing. I just ended a two-month stretch at my house without a trace of rain. If it weren't for CNN, I'd think rain was extinct.

I am glad that co-hosts were chosen for 2008. Less likelihood that we'll be marooned by someone deciding to drop off the face of the earth.

  9. I have terrible internet reception in this hotel. I really want to see how much drier Seattle is in July compared to June. And the temperature discrepancy.

    EDIT: Found it.
    Month, average high, average rainfall
    June 69 1
    July 75 1

Re: Rain. I lived in Portland for two years. Anything between the Cascades and the coastal mountain range gets very little rain from June to August. I was never so happy to see my yard burn the fuck up for lack of rain as I was every July, mainly because I used one of those bleeding-heart liberal reel mowers. Fucking thing got left in the SoCal storage space.
Anyway, Seattle's weather is pretty much a carbon copy of Portland. Rain is the least of your worries.

Because a bunch of people on this board cover college football, and media days come up right after late July outings. In the interest of getting to see family and be able to space out expenses, some people can't go in late July.

I understand it. And it's not fair to them to have them in the same two-week period every year. Not saying we have, not saying it's anything that's intentional. It comes down to the hosts and what works for them.

  12. Because football media days are in July. And I gotta start writing before that. A lot of people do.
